Default BIGGEST CAM without a tune????

Alright, does anyone have any idea if and what is the biggest cam you can put into a LT1 without having it tuned and still run good and utilize all the cam potential. The reason for this, have bigger plans for the motor later, and just wondering if there is such thing. I have heard as long as it is under .500, it would work fine without a tune. If that is the case, not really worth the effort is it?

stock.

with that said, its worthless to go with a small cam so u dont need a 100 dollar tune, and then upgrade later. just get a real cam and real tune.

^^^ Pretty much anything and everything you do to the f-bodys ruqires a new tune...somethings you can get away with like a TB, CAI, cat back exhaust and things of that nature...but when you go and start chainging the internals of the engine..the computer is still running the stock program...which is then not enought to sustain the new components...thats also a good way to trash an engine.

pick up tunercat. its less than $100, then all you need is a cable to connect to the OBD port, and a scanner. there are several other things that will help you but these basics will allow you to tune your own car as much as you like.

Or mail it to Ed Wright or a dozen other places that can install a flash tune.

there really isnt better results when you want to go with a next to stock cam. if you were going with a monster cam, id say hold out for a dyno tune for sure. a medium cam and a good tuner cat or other lt1 tuning software and a good tuner or patience and willing to learn on your part and you can do just fine. but a small cam less than .500 is worthless.

im running .59x and i think it would be cool to have a bigger cam.

Cams are kind of a go big or go home mod because they take so much ******* work lol and anyone who has done one understand that. if your looking for minimal gains that dont require a tune get exhaust, cold air intake, long tube headers and a bigger tb. those you can do tune free for the most part.

hell, even a 100 shot and u can get away tune free! 150 and timing is an issue but other than that no real tuning needed for a 150 or less. maybe thats your best choice. but i wouldnt put a 100-150 shot on car that does not have the basics bolt on mods
