Default 93-97 Headlight H.i.d. Conversion

Ok, so i've seen the homemade h.i.d. headlight conversions some of the guys are doing on their 93-97 camaros and birds, but not all of them are reliable. It took me a while, but i found the real deal for a rediculously low price. After doing a google search for about 2 hrs, i ran across www.eurolamps.com. You may not find it just by scanning through their website (that's why i did the google search). But, they have the lowbeam kit (left and right housing plus the bulbs) starting at $78. Highbeam kit same price. Upgrading the bulbs will run you another $10. Free shipping too, or so they did for me. The new kit makes one hell of a difference! Look into it. Enjoy!

Well I do not want to burst your bubble but those are not true HID's. Those lamps simply have xenon gas in the halogen housing but are not HID's. A much better solution than those are a set of hella free-form 165mm housings like I have. It converted my sealed beams to H4 lamps. The housings have a clear glass lense and use the reflector to properly distribute the light. After I did the swap with higher wattage halogens, I then decided on a HID hi/low beam 6500k kit by Kaixen and dropped that in with really good results. Nothing wrong with going with those housings but there are better options.

Here is the housing I have with hi/low beam H4 HID kit

Here is a comparison of the old silverstar housings vs the new free-form (Before I did the HID conversion)

I used the 8000K kit from ledgauges.com who also happen to be a site sponsor. Ballasts, Bulbs, and new Hella clear housings and about a 1 hour install.

yea, no luck here with ledguage.com. there is a difference blackbird between yours and mine though. my lens is a 2.2" x 5.3" (55mm x 135mm), the narrow one. so finding an all clear housing was next to impossible. i looked at hella, and piaa, and others but nobody had my size.

Ill see if I can get some. They use exactly the same housings as yours, and Coway HID's. Should look similar to what you have.

I was able to acquire two balasts and bulbs from and Audi A6. Then I just got 2 new Slivania bulbs, pried out the bulbs and sealed the HID's in there with some gasket sealer.

I'm asking because H4 HID kits should atleast have a shield (casper shield) to block the light hitting the bottom of the reflector in these kind of housings. I would imagine the glare would be much more pronounced without this shield in place. Some beam pattern pics against a wall would tell me differently.

Red96TA - I have 165mm Hella Free-Form housings from a non-sponsor and it has a PnP Kaixen 6500k H4 hi/low beam (movable shield). The HID kit was sourced from ebay and I remember the guys username. An adapter to convert my standard headlight socket to H4 style was used. I had to lengthen the H4 adapter wiring (only 3 wires) because the connector would get in between the headlight housing when closing. Was very simple to do. Beam pattern is very good considering these are halogen housings, but not up to par with projectors.

I would be interested in seeing the beam pattern on the LEDGauges kit. I'm looking for something that is a true HID kit that has the correct parts in it. Not just a plug and play setup that mounts in stock designed housings without the projectors.

For us LT1 bird owners, its very difficult to pull this off without a good deal of modification. We simply don't have enough room for a fairly easy retrofit. It's been done but it doesn't look to clean at all. One guy had a white LT1 bird in which he mounted projectors pretty much parallel with the headlight cover and just had them pop up a small bit. That was the best version I saw but I'm not sure if it ever got completed. Another was a guy with a green LT1 bird and he totally changed the housings and made them fixed headlights, but needed to cut a portion of the front bumper so the lights would shine where needed. If I could go projectors and pull it off to my standards(and skill level) then I would.

It's definitely tricky to get HID's in a OEM style packaging with good fit/finish on 93-97 bird. A few of us have managed to get it pretty close My setup: H4 (6000k) projector 4x6 housings (Main), H3 (6000k) fog light replacements with angel eyes.

Here the conversion plug for the H4: (plug & play)

show off! Looks good as usual. Btw, got a little something together for the license plate light. Pics coming soon! It's not your idea (I will keep secret) and I did buy it so no real ingenuity on my part.

I don't know if I like the "Here's your bulb" style enclosures, where the bulb is right at you. Just doesn't look right IMO heh Silverram's don't look bad though.

Checkout all of Blackbirdws6's pictures by clicking on his little thumbnail pic there. Looks like he has headlights, fogs, markers and reverse lights all done.
