Greendrazil, the performance shift button was a button in the center of the console that allows you to choose between soft shifts or firm shifts. A shift kit in another words but it is there from the factory. My car is a 94 formula and it came with the button however I've seen some cars that had a second gear start button but I believe they were only on the v6 models not sure.... Of want to say thanks to formula350 as well as the few others on this thread who are helping out with the TPS mod. I know the directions were a little confusing but thanks for helping out. By the way I forgot to mention that the article said not to exceed 4.0 volts at WOT... Sorry if I screwed any of you guys up....but just wanted to let you know about that b/c obviously it is important or they wouldn't have said it in the article. good luck

Worth mentioning it's only available on the 94+ models with the 4L60E, and not the 93's with 700R4 (4L60)

Thanks for clarifying that button. Think there is any way to retrofit it to another car, say, an LT1 Z28?

No need, the Z28s were always in "Performance" mode for the firmer shifts. That is why they do not have the button.

From what I have read the performance button exists but you need to tap into a few wired in the passenger kick panel. There is a write-up about it somewhere...

Just get the B&M Shift Improver. Then you'll have Normal (Performance) and Better (Err... Double Performance? heh)

Does anyone know of any other mods than the ones I listed or is that it???

What is the Air Inlet Elbow tube free mod? I havent heard of that one

The Z28's use the performance shift tables. There are 4 tables that control shifts, Performance, Normal, Manual, and Cruise. Performance was the stock Z28 shift table, since the Z28 was a performance model. The T/A's had an optional button, that allowed them to switch between Normal, and Performance tables.

Now, it is possible to wire the shift button into the Z28, but there is really no point. The only real life time I would think you would want to have that option, is if you switch tires sizes a lot, say 26in street tires, to 28in drag radials ... you can then switch between 2 shift tables with the touch of a button, and correct any shift point issues the new tire size might cause. Other than that, it really isn't worth the time.

I took out the factory air box and drilled holes in it so that the face of the filter is allowed to breath better. I plan on adding a panel k&n filter to replace the paper but it seems like the factory size piping and intake is sufficient for 300hp. I also gutted the cat at the same time. The car is a little louder and now has a pop to it when you rev the motor.

^^^^^ i can't explain it that well, but i believe the purpose of the screen is to control the air flow and evenly distribute it into the throttle body. Supposedly by taking it out and not having the car tuned for it creates a kind of turbulence and causes the car to run poorly. sorry, but that's the best i remeber.

ah ok.. at first i just figured it was there to not let any kind of debree get inside the throttle body. i can see how removing it would flow more air at once than it does now.. hmm so i should steer away from taking it out?

Oifish the air inlet tube free mod I was talking about was taking out the resonator tube (donkey dong) from the elbow and blocking it off. Allows air to flow straight into intake.... like the aftermarket elbows do. Also I took out my screen and it didn't make any difference at all....just runs a litlle richer but not too bad honestly (every car is different though)

I think I tried my last 'Free" mod in 98.

The ONLY free mod I found that was worth a damn and worked correctly is taking wieght out of the car

All others are crap!

BTW as far as the screen mod?I have not had one since 97 and never once had an issue even with a 96 or 97 PCM

I have seen a post on here (somewhere) that a guy actually did a comparison of just about every mod and how much HP they gained. It was an awesome thread.
