Default LT1 Free Mods

Just sitting around and being bored so thought I'd ask everyone about the different free mods we can do to our cars (LT1's), Other than De-screening the MAF, TB Bypass, TPS Mod, Air Inlet Elbow tube, AIR, EGR Delete, Gutting the Cat, And Homemade CAI Kits. Does anyone know of any other mods than the ones I listed or is that it???

Well not to sure if it actually does help but moving the IA sensor further away from the engine is sapposed to get a more accurate reading and also spacing the coil and module away from the head so it isnt directly heated up all the time is also sapposed to help. Havent seen any readings or anything but they have been done to mine havent noticed anything harmful so... just something to think about

sounds like it could help out, if not performance wise maybe keeping them cooler would make em last longer. The IA sensor relocator kit was someting I've been wanting to try as well, Could I just lengthen the wires or should I buy the kit for it? THANKS

For those who want to know about the T.P.S. Mod. Here it is. For those of you who own a 93 F-body, You can set your TPS Sensor At .50 volts to get better throttle response and 94-97 F-Body's can be set at .67 volts to improve Throttle Response. It's a free way to get the caspers Throttle Response Enhancer. The same Idea as what they do with the TRE module. I learned the trick from Golen Engines. Also the way you do it is to pull off the TPS sensor, drill the holes out at an angle so you can pivot the sensor on the Throttle Body,Reattach the sensor to the Throttle Body, Probe the blue wire with a Volt meter and then ground the other test lead to the Battery on the ground side, Slowly move the sensor while watching the volt meter as the voltage moves up and down when you move the sensor. And get your reading. Copy it so you can put it back if your car does'nt run right. Should'nt have any problems but as with any mod; results vary and I'm not responsible for mess ups. But now after you set the TPS @ your setting you are done, tighten the screws and take it for a spin. Hope it helps some of you out. If you try it and like it leave a reply, I like helping people out. Good Luck.

According to most, MAF descreening is bad and a new elbow, AIR and EGR delete as well as making your own CAI are NOT free. Elbows are $40-100, to remove the AIR and EGR you need to tune them out which is $150-$500 and a CAI, custom or not is at LEAST $40.

But yes, IAT relocation helps since it registers cooler air coming in. I don't know if it really helps as much as just making it so your air filter picks up the cooler air. My IAT reads 90-110f. 90 when driving since it's a constant high volume air flow.

I was curious about the TPS mod. Mine is set @ .67v and I only get 4.07v @ WOT. Apparently the enhancers juice it to 4.7v @ WOT which triggers the computer that it is really WOT. I'll have to move mine. My scanner does real-time readouts (even on my 93) so I can see what the v is w/o using a multimeter It does look like, from the side of the TPS, that it already is the kind that is adjustable. There's a small metal washer over it, so I can't see if the hole is elongated or not.

EDITOK it wasn't the style I thought it was. @ .5v it was only like 3.95v WOT, which was taking some off, not what I liked. So I moved it to .68 (it was .66 or .68 heh no .67). I'll see how that goes, but I have the tools in the center console incase the car doesn't like that.

Yea i just did mine as well. Mine was at .646v idle. I adjusted mine to .5v and i can tell a difference. Not a drastic one but noticable.

While it might not be the optimal reading, the computer definitely recognizes 4v as WOT. In the stock tune something like 66% throttle is the threshold.

TB Bypass is about the only "free mod" I did on the 93.
Well, that and weight reduction.

I wasted time and money on others on my 95 ... never really seemed worth it in the end.
Screwing with resistors inline with sensors isn't really a good idea IMHO.
The resistor inline with the IAT cost me -5rwhp in dyno tests.

Well I'm glad that the TPS Mod helped you guys out. I just wanted to tell others about the mod and hopefully help some people out. I did mine as soon as I seen the article on it, b/c my car had no throttle response when I first got it. And this mod helped me out quite a bit, especially when my stock performance shift button is on. When I mash down on the throttle I can tell a whole lot of difference. If u guys find out any more mods let me know....THANKS! James

What is this performance button LT1formula007 is talking about? Also, is there a thread with maybe some assembly pictures of the TPS mod?

When I did the IAT mod, heat soak from the TB made the IAT see 138 deg air temp, acording to the tech1 scanner...I lengthend the wires and put the sensor down in the wheel well and now it reads true...if you unplug the sensor the computer will see -30 degrees..so it will dump alot of fuel.

Stupid question. But what is the TPS mod, and how is it done?

Throttle position sensor. You slot the mounting holes so you can get better signal voltage without opening the blades.

To dumb it down further, since no ones getting it...

The holes are round, and you can't adjust it. You make the holes oval and then the TPS will move around and change voltages. Tighten it up at that voltage and then it's modded. I uses a drill bit just between my fingers and went up and down in the hole, which shaved off the sides. You COULD use a drill but, I figured that'd take more off than I wanted. With the little I did, I could adjust over 0.10v

I didn't notice any difference in response or anything. I don't feel like re-adjusting it so I'm leaving it at .52v

As for the IAT mod, I wouldn't just toss it some where cool, personally. I'd leave it in the intake tube, just up stream towards the filter. My temp cools down about 10-20c when air is moving, and that's with it inside an alu elbow quite close to the TB. Only reason I could see yours being 138 is if you had the TB Coolant there still. Mine at a stop light is only around 115 at most, and my air filter is inside the engine bay. It's not a nice CAI like Moroso or anyone else
