Do you mean you are looking for a 4 bolt block?

If you are this set on an LT4 block then it is time to go back to square one and learn the BASICS so you don't screw yourself looking for something that wont be worthwhile but will command a high price because most like you ASSume it is something special.

It is the same exact casting as all the other LT1 blocks even the one in grandma's Caprice wagon.

far as I know an LT4 block is a 4-bolt LT1 block

splayed caps are expensive and often not necessary

talk to a reputable engine builder or run your combo by some of the guys here (Chris S aka Z8s would be a good one, or Jim Moran @ speed inc to name another)

The LT4 block is a 4-bolt main, but so are all the other Corvette LT1 blocks.

There was no specific LT4 block. All Corvette blocks and some F & B body blocks were 4 bolt LT1 blocks. A few wound up in the F & B bodies because of production needs-they used blocks on hand to fill the orders.

What made a LT4 engine was the head, intake and valvetrain package as well as a few other nuggets here and there.

Get a LT1 block and have your shop convert it to 4 bolt mains. Splayed is nice but quite un-needed below say 500 HP.

I kept thinking "There is no LT4 block" but you hit the nail on the head right there.

If I was building a motor I genuinely believed needed 4-bolt mains I would sure as hell be using aftermarket caps, meaning a factory 4-bolt would be of maybe less value to me than a 2-bolt.

Eagle just come out with some 4 bolt caps that cost less than 1/2 of what other caps go for.

LMAO
I love when everyone tries to be smarter than everyone else
like I said an LT4 (referencing an actual LT4 engine) IS a 4-bolt LT1 block

seriously, I should have never posted as I full well knew that more and more would post all of us saying the same thing

it's like asking 'what will it run' . . . pointless

let's just hope our thread starter managed to follow us long enough to get a useful answer

I kinda agree w/ 96capricemgr about the 2 vs 4 bolt, but seems most folks value a 4-bolt block as a "need"

anyway, off me box, just my .02 if it's even worth that . . . damned inflation

I am wonderin where he heard of a LT4 Block..

Difference between the Corvette LT1/LT4 is the Intake, Cam, Heads, Rockers Arms, Rocker Studs, Crank, Timing Set, Valve Springs, Pistons, no EGR, Plug Wires, and if I left anything out fill it in..

Difference between a F-body and the Corvette is the Mains and the Rails, everything else is the same. The Factory replacements had 4-Bolt Mains.

I had a 4-Bolt Main in the LT1 that I sold, it came from a 1994 Corvette.

I guess it depends on your application for the Mains, and how strong you need them. My new Engine has 6-Bolt Mains..I suprised me a little bit when I found that out, I didn't know that until I started doin some in-depth research.

Yeah GM really did their engineering right on the GEN III. The cap spans the entire block so I imagine flex is almost nill. The side bolts are great insurance. I am debating on whether or not to get the billet caps over the stockers in my 6.0 iron.

I left them Stock. What's real nice is that I checked the clearances when my Rods came in the other day..with my 4.000" Stroke Crank, the 6.125" Rods clear by 1/8".
That Block can take a 4.100" Crank with out clearancing it.

My buddy (who has since sold his machine shop) built a 383 LS1 with 4" crank and the block was fine but a rod bolt was hitting the pan. I know cuz he gave me the pan with the big groove in it.
