I removed mine when I spun a couple of rod bearings. There was no way to clean all the debris out of it so I just took it off. One advantage is that now I can run the larger oil filter (taller) from a '96ish Full Size Chevy Truck (5.7 Vortec).

 

Anyone know the size of the nut holding it on?

 

I think the nut was like 24mm or something. I have no idea about the threads.
