Default Couple Build ?'s

I am rebulding a LT1 I was wanting to know if it would be a good ideal to reuse some things. The car only had 80,xxx on it I want to use the stock pistons, rods, and rod bolts it's going to have a cc 503,and supporting mods. Just wanting some input on this. Thanks

I wouldn't if I was going to build...if it was a used set of forged I would consider it but I think the guts of an lt1 are a little weak. I would just do it right the first time get good internals and you won't have to touch the bottom end for quite a while. Good luck

There is no need for any forged or expensive rotating assembly parts. Now if your pistons are worn you should get a new set, and if you are then you might consider forged ones. The LT1 parts are actually pretty good. You basically just want a cam only setup that will be cost effective and run good, right?

He wants a cam only car that's going to run for more than a couple months i'm sure. Once that cam's in there he's going to want to run it a little higher in the power band...
I would try a search on lt1 rods and see if it's worth the risk of saving a little money. Going back into the engine in a couple months would **** you off. At the least find some cheap low mileage rods.

LOL dude I and many others have stock bottom end setups with much more agressive head and cam setups with that, that are making more power and being spun higher. He should not need to spin above 6500RPM with that cam and the stock bottom end is fine for that.

mr 96capricemgr runs a stock shortblock and he's making a touch over 400rwhp. Most would agree stock rods are capable of over 450+hp..

If you go that route, just get good bearings and your machinist is good with all the clearances, etc. Maybe upgrade your rod bolts and you'd be fine! Just be sure to check your bores for wear cuz you don't want a sloppy piston in there.
