A TB coolant bypass is good for a few extra ponies.Coolant is allowed to flow through the throttly body to prevent the throttle blades from freezing up in very cold areas.I have never heard of them actually freezing on an LT1 car, so most people do a TB coolant bypass to allow for a cooler denser charge of air which frees up a little more power and best of all is a free mod.

Here we go with the 18thmillion threads.

Other than the general "RTFM" post I'd usually do. It's good for 6-10 dynoed rwhp. Varied per car, and per application. Takes 3-5mins to do, and all you need is 2hose clamps and a 1/4" hose butt connector (pretty sure it's 1/4").

The only place I could imagine them freezing is past the arctic circle. TBI motors never had them and they're even worse I'd think with fuel hitting them.

There's two coolant lines to the tb. One for entering coolant, one for exiting coolant. You just pull the lines off the tb and use an aluminum(usually) connector to reconnect the two lines. Very simple. However, especially at higher rpms, air spends milliseconds going through the tb, so how does bypassing the tb really effect air temps. Not much.

1/4" hose butt connector or a "hose to hose fitting" whatever you want to call it. And 2 small hose clamps. You don't even need to ask for the adapter, it was on a carossel rack at my NAPA, in a blue backed carboard/plastic enclosure. Hell I think it might even have came with 2 hose clamps lol Since that's the purpose of it, and you need hose clamps to connect under-pressure hoses.

yeah, with the 95+ type doesn't need it but with 93-94 you have to get a connector piece to join the hoses.

Also, you'll want to pick up some vacuum caps for the TB ports.

Why? For what? The coolant passages aren't vacuum fed. They are just that, a passage.

Cosmetic purposes, IMO it looks a lil cleaner with the ports caped.

Take the IAC plate to the bandsaw then and lop off the coolant passage now THAT'S clean looking. Guy I bought my 58mm had that done. Shame I didn't keep it -_- So many things I let go on the 91 grr. Oh well, I have the 58mm still

I'm gonna be doing this too. Just noticed the rubber elbow that goes from the TB to the steampipe has a weephole. Might as well just bypass it.

I was double jointed enough to change the #2 plug under the alternator without removing it - wonder if I can use that same "dexterity" to do that hose without removing alternator brackets.

How much coolant should I plan on dripping when I disconnect?
