Whistle from under timing cover?
I need help for a problem i ve been tracking down for the 3 last months.
My engine(New lt4 crate motor, last one) got a whistle sound coming from the front of the engine since the first start, right now it got 140miles only.
I ve change everything around and the whistle never go away.So today ive bought i mechanic stethoscope and search thru all the engine.
I ve check:water pump/tb/iac housing/intake and no strange sound.
When i check the timing cover i could clearly hear the whistle sound. So its coming from underneath the timing cover wich point to the timing chain?
By he way its a whistle sound no a grinding/shaving sound.
What should i do?
What could make the timing chain to whistle?
Can i run the car or its a no no ?
Thanks

I keep telling myself that it cant be the timing chain since its a whistle sound that i hear and not a grinding sound like metal on metal.
But what could whistle under the timing cover ???

It is rumored that a certain number of cam sprockets made it through GM's Q.C. without being heat treated for proper hardness. When you have two gears with different hardnesses, the teeth in the softer one will become worn out of tolerance specs and develop gear whine.
