Default Need help in chosing my LT1

I've finally decided to get rid of the V6 Camaro, and start looking for a V8. Theres soo many F-Bodies to chose from though!!! Formula, Z28, SS, Trans Am... Firehawk! Where do I start! They all have their benefits.. And disadvantages.. Z28s are cheaper, but more common. The SS is less common, but a lot more expensive. Trans Am's are in the middle when it comes to common V8 F-Bodies and are in the middle with price. and Firehawks are also semi-rare, and pretty expensive.. This is going by at least what is around me. It may be different for you guys. I dont know where to start. What are the advantages are there to owning a Camaro over pontiac(Trans Am/Formula/Firehawk) and a pontiac over a camaro. I want to keep it to the years of 1993-1997 with the LT1's. I cant afford a LS1 F-Body.

Thanks
Mike

the only rule is that you buy/own what you like, doesn't mean jack what someone else likes or thinks is cooler

Thats the thing though, I like them all!!! So its kinda hard when you like everything! Does this mean I should buy 1 of each?? haha, I'm just kidding, But I wouldnt base it on looks. I like both body styles. I was kinda leaning towards what the advantages are of owning each of them and what the disadvantages are also..

I think a Z28 with nice rims is pure sex.

Say what? Bullshit. Give me one solid reason why you have that assumption.

And to the original poster, get what you can find that has the best combination of mileage, overall condition, and attraction factor to you. If you don't have a preference, then just get the best overall car for the best price.

this will be my last response to any of the 'which is better' 'what will it do' threads

what advantage do you want?

MECHANICALLY THEY'RE THE SAME CAR! there is NO advantage
firebirds have headlight motors - disadvantage, but they have the cool WS6 hoods - advantage

buy the car you like, if you can't make up your own mind then you shouldn't be buying a car at all

rowdy's advice is on the $ imho

now . . . I . . . am . . . outta . . . here.

Well I don't think it's one of those questions like "What will it do?" I actually think there's some validity to the question. With a Z, your advantage is the headlights. The motorized head lights will soon or later give you problems if they've not been fixed already. I think the most common problem is stripped gear, but mine was busted housings. I think weight wise the T/A is probably a little heavier due to things like that, headlights, ground effects, big spoiler. I might try to find a stripper car, which would be more common in the Camaro I think. Find something that has rollup windows, hardtop, etc. Or if you're all about the comfort then that's cool, it's whatever you're after. The differences are small and hopefully I lined them out for ya.

Thanks... This is more of what I was after. The different body styles dont bother me. But I was just wondering what differances there are between Trans Ams and camaros. About what milage on average do the headlights on the Trans Ams usually go?

There is no set mileage they die at. Mine are fine at 80K. Don't worry about the little **** like that. The differences between the models are negligible. Like I said before, worry more about finding a solid, well-taken-care-of car.

I guarantee you that you will have your hands full with that when shopping for an LT1 car.

If I could do it all over again I would either get an LT1 SS or WS6. A 96 though, not a 97. Z-28s are a nice choice too...easy to make look nice.

I dont know about the LT1 WS6's but the LT1 SS's were always noticeably faster and more rare..but they come with more of a price tag. Don't go out there and set your sights on something like a rare firehawk because you'll be looking forever and actually spend twice what the car should be worth. I'd be satisfied with a nice low mileage Z if I was you. You're right where I was a a couple years ago.
