Haha. The car actually looked pretty good in person. It had a little bit of cracking/spidering on the front clip and bump, but overall it looked good.

Yeah, I told him it wasn't a true SS. Then he asked what the difference was. He didn't seem to care. It's still an SS to him!

Actually... the RPO code for the 96-97 SS is R7T. 98-02 is WU8 and the Y2Y code is option order code.

Actually if I remeber all 96-97 Cars were just converted Z28 cars and were even called Z28 SS cars The GM vin# would not tell you. You would be looking for the SLP tags and sending the VIN off to SLP for verification.

GM does not even list many of the parts(never did) for the LT4 cars built

Don't really mean to be off topic but I noticed on my VIN for the Firebird/Trans Am whatever it is that there is no distinction either. It will always read "Form/Trans Am."

Meaning it could be a Firebird Formula (V8) or Firebird Trans Am (V8).

Yes I realize that but I was merely agreeing that there is no distinction in the VINs as your subject car could have been a Z28 (V8) or SS (V8).

Yeah makes sense that they leave the factory as Z28's but kinda odd there's no coding for a Formy or a T/A. BTW, the girl is Jennifer Hurt. She's a Playboy model. She really revs my engine.

Another way to tell is that 1996 and early 1997 SS's had Z28SS on the airbox, not just SS.
