Default Help me choose between two grinds

Okay I've narrowed my search down to these:

Comp Cams 467 XFI
Advertised RPM Band - 2000 - 6000
230/236 @.50 - .576/.570 Lift (1.6 RR) - 113 LSA

OR

Comp Cams 468 XFI
Advertised RPM Band - 2200 - 6200
242/248 @.50 - .584/.579 Lift (1.6 RR) - 113 LSA

I want to shift my ride at right around 6300, I'm on a stock bottom end with LE2 heads. The powerband of the 230/236 sounds right about what I'm looking for but the 242/248 is still pretty close, if the power difference is big enough I'd just shift at 6500..

Application is a 100% street car. Stock weight, M6, 4.10s, LE2s, as fast as possible while being streetable for a couple days a week.

Any help would be appreciated in helping me decide between the two.

I would go with the 467 XFI cam. It will make power to the 6300 range you are looking for. It will also have better numbers down low.

Yeah thats the way I'm leaning, I figure for a street car lower end power is always better

Yeah I'm thinking the 467 for driveability.

Wait if you've got LE2 heads, which cam do you have now?

Even though it doesn't seem to be advertised as a high revving cam, 242/248 seems too large to be shifting at 6300.

Yeah I was thinking it would want around 6600-6700.

I love the big lift on these cams though, makes good use of my heads haha

I have heads that flow a little bit better than the LE2s. I was going to go with the 468 grind for my setup. I currently have the cc306 and it isnt big enough for my heads.

Stay away from the 242/248 if you've got stock CID. I ran that cam and it was a mistake. Didn't do my homework. It had no low end on my 350 and wasn't much fun for cruising or daily driving other than the sound. You can get a nice sound with a much smaller cam too. I have a custom grind cam now.

You feel the 230/236 would have been a better choice? I'm stock 350 cubes.

I've been trying to get a custom cam, first bret bauer flaked on me, then cam motion flaked and now I can't get jay allen to respond rofl

Yeah I think so. 242/248 is just too much duration. When dyno tuning, we spun mine up to 7,000 and never did find a power peak. We didn't want to go beyond that. So we set the shift points for 6300 and rev limiter at 6800 and I ran it for about 3,000 miles. I had to get it out of there and get something better suited for my setup and goals.

even the 230/236 would want to rev past 6300. The rpm range comp lists for cams is a joke.

Perhaps it's a personal hygiene problem.

Or perhaps all three are very busy.

Well I haven't had much luck with cam grinders either. I tried Cam Motion and they quoted me one but I had to give them $25. After I paid for a quote, I get a recommendation that I just totally didn't like. So I called Wheel2Wheel. He said he'd get right on it and of course he doesn't call me back. I guess if I didn't have $50K to throw down a car they didn't need my business. So I finally got something rolling with Comp and I settled on a custom with them.

Perhaps it's time to learn a new skill?

YEah I don't know what's up with the custom cam grinders... no one seems to want business from someone who can't throw 50k at a car...

Same thing with this machine shop in my area. In 2002 when I started to build my motor, I had always heard they were the best. Well, long story short, they're not the best. All they give a damn about is their circle track people that spend $$$$ there. They don't give a **** about the little guy that brings them business too. Customer service sucks, their attention to detail ain't that great..........
