1/2 qt should not be hitting the crank.

Use the Motor Flush. I have used it several times. Just make sure you drain it all out. Stay away from oil additives as already mentioned. If you are using a quality synthetic, then the additive is already in it.

I don't see how you guys are filling it up with 5 quarts or less. I don't use an oversized filter or aftermarket cooler and it comes out to be like 5.7 quarts.

forgot to mention. what do you guys average on idleing oil pressure warm. and driving temp warm.

i noticed my temp gauge got up to 235 before my fans kicked on an it cooled down to 215? is that normal? my ls1 and cobra didnt see over 210..

trans question.. i have a slow leak coming from or just coming down on a steel hose on the right side of the trans. the car shifts normal in normal driving.. but when i stomp on it. it wont shift. itl hit the revlimiter and just stick there? if i let off alil itl go into the next gear? whats up with that?

please help!

What are you seeing? It's common for these things to show low while idling. As long as you're showing an increase in pressure as you accelerate, I would say that is normal.

I would also say that is pretty common on these cars. Stock fan settings aren't the best. Does the fans kick on automatically when A/C is switched on? Also make sure BOTH fans are kicking on for peace of mind.

Sounds like what you mentioned is a trans cooler line. Probably wanna fix that. Also make sure trans isn't already low! That could be the reason why it isn't shifting. Runs out of oil to pump. Just guessing there but that's the first thing that comes to mind when you mentioned that line.

yea both fans are coming on automatically. they dont turn on when i turn my ac on. how can i get my car to run cooler? change the fan settings?

yea it leaks all over my cat. smokes like crazy. its not low. its in operating temp. so im not sure why its doing that.. the car was sitting for 2 ana half years?

Actually that is with the small fitler. If you use the big filter like most of us and rev High RPMs 5.5 is just right...even with the 20w-50 RP I run.

Yeah a little thicker oil might help you out on your PSI. On the trans line, might just see if those fittings need tightening. Otherwise, they'll have to cut you a custom length hardline, bend it, slide the fittings/nuts on there, and then flare it.

Looks like you need a Trans rebuild not just motor oil

hah I was going to ask just this question too because I thought it was 5.5qt.

Does year matter possible? Do all years use the older style big oil filter? Mine is a Fram PH30, and not the PH3980 (skinny long) which is the taller version of the PH3387 that all the cars take, like the 3800 V6's. I'll just have to check my engine catalyst (sticker on the radiator crossmember)

Now, I just have to check if this filter I got to see if it's the right one. It was in my buddies garage and he said I can have it, and he's a Chev guy so it's a good chance. Napa GOLD even! lol

I use them and have one right here in front of me... says "4.73L/5U.S. Qts" on the big bottle of Mobil.
