Default Need Help In Choosing Headers/exhaust

Hello everyone I am the proud of owner of a 93lt-1 with some mod's. already ex. milled/ported heads,lt-4 hot cam, 1.6rr's, cai,bbk underdrive pulley, holley air foil, adj. fuel press. reg., msd ign. syst, 8.5 wires, ngk plugs. But my exhaust sytem needs help it currently has a flowmaster catback which i want to ditch out. There are so many brands out there that I am confused in choosing a setup I want to go long tubes with all emissions and of course i will run my a/c as well. WHAT is everyone using in your cars for exhaust and headers.? everyones feedback would be greatly appreciated comments will help me in making my final decision. thanks everyone,.

I am running Pacesetter's Long tubes and love em. Except for clearance issues they are great for the $$. I hear Hooker's headers are really good but more expensive.

As for a cat-back I think my magnaflow is the best cat-back for price and quality. But the GMMG has a great sound and great performance. As far as cat-back's go, except for flowmaster, I think they all perform pretty much the same. The key differences are how they are ran, materials, and definetaly the sound.

I'm using Pacesetter L/T's as well. love em and rearly hit them on anything, they run into a Magnaflow Cat-back as well, love the Magnaflow's sound down low and really love the sound when you open it up up top. all 3" from Collectors back

yea this is my exact set-up. Sounds great! I have issues with bottoming out though. I will blame my poor shocks and springs for that not the headers.

Pacesetter Longtubes w/ Corsa Catback and Cutout here. If I could do it over again, I would go with Kooks Longtubes though.

I love the Magnaflow exhaust systems for the LT's. And LSX's. My friend has one on his 95 Z28, and I got one on my V6. They are affordable and very easy to install. I'm not to sure about what headers to chose because I'm not too familiar with them. I dont give advise on what I dont know. But as for the exhaust, I'd go with magnaflow. When I get my Z28 or Trans Am, Magnaflow is going to be the first upgrade on the car. I bought mine off of ebay and got a great deal on it. Also, I'd go to a video site like youtube and do a search on the different exhaust systems and their sounds just to see what they sound like. Good luck and have fun!

I'm in the same position you are. When we built my car everyone said not to worry about headers because they only caused problems and were only good for about 5-10hp anyways... Now that I've been here apparently headers are the best thing in the world... So now I'm trying to find headers. I'm running a CAI, ported and foiled throttle body, ported and polished intake, ported and polished heads with oversized valves and full compcams custom valvetrain, bored and stroked with all forged internals, and then every single bolt on there is that I know of, then its going out factory manifolds... so apparently I'm holding back some power with my manifolds and flowmaster... it sounds good though.

Ok..with what you have listed, here's what your cars doing in Laymens terms with stock manifolds, It's pretty much inhauling air like a **** but is exhualing like it's got a dick stuck in it's throat. let the sucker breath

yea man, why would you upgrade everything and not the headers? You gotta let that puppy breathe my friend! Long tubes and you will pick up some serious rwhp I would imagine. That is holding everything back im sure.

Well I get on here and look around. People are doing all kinds of major upgrades and the difference between headers and manifolds always tends to be like 10 maybe 20hp at the most, its kinda discouraging. Yea, I imagine some headers would do me some good, and infact I'm going crazy wanting to go ahead and get a set. BUT, I also read about everyone burning wires and leaking exhaust at the heads, all kinds of negative junk, so I dunno.

But If I can find a set for cheap I think I might go ahead and do that.

All my upgrades were due to necessity. I got the car with 120,000 miles, engine rebuild number 6. So ofcourse we have to machine like hell to save the block, which we don't mind, Our buddy at the machine shop loves this **** and helps us out for practically nothing. The heads need work... oversized valves and killer springs are about the same price as OEM replacements. The came lobes are pretty much not there anymore, so we call up comp and they custom grind one for us, cheaper than OEM, so we also get pushrods and lifters. All the major stuff is done and paid for, most for very cheap, considering my dad has built race engines for nearly 35 years and knows where to get stuff and so on... So all that is left is little bolt on crap like CAIs, and whatnot. So my build wasn't exactly an expensive one or one that was meant for maximum hp, it just happened to work out well. So dumping $800 on a nice set of headers and then a Y-pipe and paying some guy to fab up a whole new exhaust system seemed a little excessive...

I think all together We only spent a little over 3k on the entire build including the tranny which was built in-house using lots of custom parts and aftermarkets upgrades.

But now the paint and interior work is a completely different story, Insurance paid for ALOT of it. The night I got the car the previous owners girl friend, well EXGF, saw it and went nuts on it, busted all the glass, worst keying I've ever seen, slashed tires, wheels, etc etc. I cried cause it was all on my dad's shop camera... Anyways, luckily we put full coverage on it the moment we signed the papers, by the way I bought this car for $120 through a mechanics lein. Anyways, Ins Rep was pissed, but I got new paint and nearly everything replaced..

sorry for the long story, just thought i'd chime in...

it all depends on what your looking for do you want and your budget. i would go with jethot longtubes with no emissions from ws6store.com for a catback it all depends, do you want really loud or loud but not to loud? id say go with x pipes but you would be spending out the *** if you went that rout. than id say go with gmmg but thats cost way to much also, if you did that you might as well go with xpipes. so that leaves you with slp loudmouth. or if you want a little more quite go with a borla or corsa, both sound vary nice and vary high quality.
