Default Intalling a tach.......question.....

Hey guys, I did an LT-1 swap into my 69 Camaro, I am not using the factory dash the 94 has so I don't have a tach.

I have a 5" Tach I want to mount in the car, but I'm not real sure on where to get my tach signal from. I know there is a tach input to the dash harness....should I use that wire or should I use the wire directly off the coil? Or is it the same wire?

Thanks for any help,

Joe

Are you using the factory computer with the engine?

If so the pin out is right here

I'm pretty sure the out is 5v square wave that should would work with the auto meter tach.
and props to guy who made shbox.com

i think you can get a more accurate signal off the coil... I believe it is a pink wire but don;t quote me

The coil and the PCM have the same signal, except the PCM has a distinctive "tach out" to "gauge cluster" so I guess it's just personal preference where you hook it up.
I had a data logger hooked up to the tach out pin and from what I saw it was dead on. (matching engine revs to EGT's)
