Default Pacesetter headers WAY too close. HELP

Installed Pacesetter headers on my 94 LT1 and there about 1/16 of an inch away from my steering shaft. What do I do now??? bend the tube away from the shaft, or is there some way of altering the steering shaft? Bending the tube was my best idea I could come up with, but with them being the coated type, will I screw the coating up if I start beating on it? The last thing I want ot do is have the coating start deteriorationg.

If its not hitting just leave it alone. Mine is that close and I have not trouble.

What he said except I don't personally have a set yet.^ Try it just the way it is now, if you find it to be a problem take it from there.

Well your engine is going to torque up probably, like like it will go over towards the shaft. So you should be good. If you have problems, just grind then end of the shaft bolt and you'll be fine

the shaft bolt is nowhere near the exhaust. So this problem exists with other installs and no big deal? I would think as the engine rocks back and forth over time a rattle followed by a hole would happen.

Kellam, yours are how far away from the steering shaft?? What about everyone elses??

Mine's really close as well, never a problem. If all else fails get the dremel and clearance the shaft (SLIGHTLY!), or use a hammer to clearance the headers.

So what do you think the hammer method will do to the ceramic coating. Start flaking or chipping and eventually look like s__t?

You could probably massage it without tearing up the coating. It seems pretty durable.

But like the others said, if it isn't touching it, leave it be.

Well, Ill see what happens I guess. Im just a little worried that it might rattle something in my steering loose. I dont want to be cruising down the road some day and all of the sudden end up in the ditch. Its just hard to believe that a set of 400 dollar headers would be fitted so poorly. Theres plenty of room to step that tube in a good quarter of an inch......Ya know?

$400 isn't that much for a set of LT's btw. It shouldn't be a problem.

They arent Long Tubes. Maybe I should have mentioned that, sorry. I had the intention of swapping out the manifolds, and when I opened the box- there were also the pieces for a Y-pipe. All I wanted were stock replacements for manifolds to swap out and have a little better flow.Im not complaining about that or anything but the paper thin clearance at the steering shaft still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Sounds like the Shorties...
You want the easy way, Hammer Mod. Grind on the Shaft for a little more work.

You want a permanent solution..LS1 Steering Rack and Linkage.
Here is a pic comparing both, LS1 is on the bottom.
You can see that I had to grind on the Shaft of mine as well at one point in time.

Yea, 5/8 I could live with. I wish I could figure out how to get a pic posted on here. I have a pic of the fuel pump hatch I fabbed up I would like to show off. Looks kick-***! Anyhow, after the pump was installed, I fired it up,proceeded to cream my pants from the sound, and then inspected the header/steering shaft situation. After the heating up, and running its obvious its now touching the shaft. I spun the wheel a couple of times and theres rub marks on the steering shaft. Anyone have and LS1 steering set-up? Any other votes on this being a solution?

That still won't work, look at my pic, see how thick it is compared to the spot on the LT1 Linkage where it was rubbing.
