1.6 rr questions
im considering going with some 1.6 rr. i have a few questions though. 1)will i need to tune the computer afterwards? 2) can i go with aluminum or should i stick with steel for the street? 3) what are the best rockers for 200 dollars or less? 4)is it necessary that i upgrade to better springs and if so, which ones? ive heard maybe LT4 springs for 50 dollars? 5) will i notice a difference in exhaust tone and idle?
i realize some of these might be stupid questions but im just curious before i start making real plans. thanks guys

I have been wanting to do this mod for a while but am waiting until I can get all the money to do the entire cam swap.
You should get a tune afterwards since it will change your air/fuel mix.
Not sure on the material, I would expect aluminum to be ok
If you upgrade the rockers to a larger size I would def. upgrade the springs, and I have heard the lt4 springs are not that good. Also apparently the beehive springs have been breaking lately too.
I would expect an exhaust note change.

1) No, but a tune never hurts
2) Both are fine BUT for the higher HP applications go with Comp Cam Pro mags, weight doesnt matter, aluminum can flex.
3) Comp Cam Pro Magums
4) People have gotten by on stock but is NOT recommended, LT4's are junk, crap retainers, get some Comp Cam 918's
5) Maybe a little, but I doubt it, RR doesnt do much on the bottom end.

I did it for a grand total of $50. Brand new 1.6 rockers straight from GM. I used stock springs as well. Guess thats the good thing about havin hookk ups here and there. hehehe.........I noticed a slight change in tone at idle. sounds a little meaner. haha plus I picked up a 10th in the quarter. went from 13.7 to 13.6

go with the comp pro mags. i went with crane golds but when i stepped up to a custom cam and titanium retainers they wouldnt clear. so i had to get the pro mags. the pro mags can handle more lift so take that into consideration if you are thinking about adding a cam later on. i think all the aluminum bodied rocker (pretty much all the same) cant handle much over .575 or so on lift.
i also ran my stock springs with the 1.6s for about a year and many track passes with zero problems.

Scorpion seems to have a good rep for a not so expensive rocker. Also you can pickup the roller tip 1.6 rockers at a substantial discount over the full rollers. They have the slots on the stud but can save some cash. Upgrade your springs too. I would like to see someone make a case for the LT4 springs being crap though.

Something like this http://store.summitracing.com/partde...6&autoview=sku
That particular PN has pushrods too for a difference of $20 so not a bad buy there. If you reuse your stock pushrods, you can pickup rockers like this on Ebay for less. Just stay away from brands like CAT and "xxx Racing." Stick with names like Comp, Crane, GM, Scorpion. I even saw some PBM rockers on there the other day for cheap. They associate with names like Carillo so I might not feel bad about those either.
