Do you have a shift kit in the 700r4? I had a 83 z28, 700r4, B&M Megashifter, no shift kit though, some B&M trick shift fluid. I always shifted with the megashifter cause I was having the issue you are having of it shifting early, but it did it to me in every gear at WOT, would shift before 5k. I found that without a shift kit, if you bring it back to half throttle just as you bang it forward, then go wot it doesn't seem to stumble and shifts quicker. Well everyone is different see if it helps you out or not.

ok thanks for the advice. the gm engineers had the tranny setup pretty well in 1 and 2 gears because it doesnt shift till peak power (5800) but 3 to 4 shifts too early, no biggy really, just leave it in 3rd when racing
