Default Went to the track on Friday

Finally got to the track with the relocation brackets...

First run with the Nittos at 20psi was a 12.7@113 with a spinning 1st gear that was short shifted and a 2.1 60ft...
2nd run I dropped the tires to 14psi, blew out a header gasket on the burn out but still bogged and ran a 12.9@113 with a 2.1 60ft...

So I'm going to get some locking header bolts and then what kind of header gaskets are most of you guys running?

Sucks that I only got one real pass in before something broke since I can't drive for 28 more days... But I thought the mph was pretty good for the weather that night. I think it has low 12s to 12 flat in it on these tires if I can get a track night without anything breaking to get the launch correct.

What is your elevation? Or better yet the d/a? 113mph is pretty weak for 400+rwhp.

Texas is low elevation, we are not much higher than sea level, use some real tires, i had hell with nittos on a stock LT1 car, they never gave me any luck.

San Antonio Raceway in Texas, how do I look up the d/a? On a good pass I'm thinking it should trap at least 115. The weather that night was in the 80s and nice and humid...

Yeah I know I need some real tires just don't have the money at the moment...

i heard nittos are only good on front wheel drive cars. it says it on their website too. thats what made me go with bfg's. get no mileage from mt's.

Hm never heard that before... I'm not going with Nittos again anyway though, either Bfg's or Mt's since I have a dd now.

think that was semi sarcastic, yea nittos suck you have to get them real hot and they will still...prolly at least a 5 sec urnout...

were at sealevel but here in dallas its been 100 plus everyday....my cam only car trapped 113 in this weather but its a little lighter...if the temp was in the 70's hed prolly be in the 118 range....(find a da calculator and transfer your times to 000 DA

I like the felpro gaskets. And I had good luck with nittos on the street, buy you do have to get them hot. I have never ran nittos on the track.

Oh ok, I was doing a 5-6 second burnout at 6-6.5k rpms so they were hot enough I think.

I always did my 'burnout' til I saw nice white clouds in both mirrors
seems most people with sticks don't have as good of luck with nittos so you might check into bfg or m/t radials

You really need something better than Nittos for a 400rwhp car.
I'm rather partial to MT ET Drag Radials.
You'll find a lot of cars here running them and pulling great 60' times.

As for gaskets, I like Percy's dead-soft gaskets with 1" Stage 8 locking bolts.
I've reused them on two different set of headers now without any leaks and I've never had to retighten.

Some people swear by Felpro and standard bolts. I didn't have much luck that way
and to be quite honest, I don't want to have to retighten my header bolts over and
over again but that's just me.

There was enough white smoke, so I'm thinking I need to just get some slicks for the track and either Bfg's or Mt radials for the street. I was hoping to borrow some slicks but that fell through so I just ran with my tires.

I'm not sure which gaskets I'll run yet but definitely getting some stage 8 locking header bolts so this crap doesn't happen again.

ive heard that the more you lower your tire pressure, the more you lower your trap speed. of course your 60 should pick up due to more traction. but the drag created by the low tires will cost you top end. its a good theory and makes sense. however, im not sure how much it really effects mph

I have noticed that. I will lower my psi to get better traction, but I will see my mph drop 1 or 2. But as long as I get a better ET, that is all I'm worried about.

I run percy's dead soft gaskets in mine as well as BFG drag radials . I love them both. No problems out of either one.

Percy gaskets with locking bolts is the way to go. Tighten the bolts and forget about them.

first off i miss the hell out of HRP 50' above sea level
as far as the NITTO's my friends '89TTA runs them with BMR tq arm and BMR lca's,3500 vig.,transbrake, john craig turbo 67mm
1.47 60'
10.77 @128
yes, the car does spin a little and still pulls the wheels and cut 1.46 60' times
so i would say the NITTO's work well!

Get some M/T ET Street radials. Your 60' is way off. Good luck and post back your results.

I've heard that Nittos aren't very good for m6 cars and I imagine it is easier to launch a stalled auto with a transbrake than a m6...

I ordered some stage 8 locking header bolts, going to pick up a set of oem exhaust gaskets since I've blown out 3-4 sets of Felpros, Mr Gasket and Perceys all together since I've had the headers. Then once I burn up these Nittos I'll most likely grab some MT street radials since they make them in 315/35/17 now. But I still need to run on some et drags if I really want to see what times it is capable of

All times are GMT -5. The time now is 07:36 PM.
