Default Cheap good clutch

Hey guys, the clutch in my car just went out and i need to know who makes a streetable clutch that can handle about 450-475hp N/A and the occasional 100-150 shot. I was running a stock lt4 clutch in it and it held up suprisingly well. I dont run sticky tires or do any drag racing so it just needs to be able to hold up from 30 punches and **** like that.
Thanks-Jeremy

Autozone clutch kit and a McLeod Single disk. Probably a little under $400.

I dont think you can put the words "Cheap" and "Good" together. lol i dont think that the autozone clutch will hold up that long. I learned my lesson a really long time ago with them... I'd say try Ram.

I'm running a Hayes clutch, it seems to be doing alright.

I would stay away from centerforce dual friction, it seems I'm not the only person who has destroyed one, so much for their claim of holding 90% more power than the stock clutch. I killed one with my bolt on car, never had any sticky tires or anything.

I've never actually heard of a "Good" "Cheap" clutch. If you want a good clutch it's not going to be "Cheap" IMO.

yeah, I don't think I would be going with a "cheap" clutch if you want it to hold 600+ hp.

I agree. The centerforce is a waste of money. I built a stroker 383 with forged eagle crank and rods with JE forged pistons at 10.5:1 compression with worked over dart iron eagle 200cc heads and a comp cams 305h cam with performer rpm air-gap intake and 750dp. It's a damn potent build that makes more than most expected. I built It for a big shot of nitrous but I never even got to use the kit even at a 125 shot. It killed a fully built th-350 with a reverse manual valve body in 3 weeks. So I converted the car (89 formula firebird that started as a 305tpi 700r4 combo) from an auto to a manual with an lt1 t56. Figured I'd never get enough traction to break the t56 anyway. Spent $650 on a centerforce dual friction from summit and it lasted about 4 months as a daily driver on 265 street tires with a 98 z28 rear end. Gave it wear in time and everything. That bitch never could hold a full throttle pull. If the tires ever got traction the clutch would slip. It had a McLeod master cylinder also. The centerforce dual friction is a POS and I doubt it could handle a stock ls1.

Where abouts you in VA? I'd be angry too if I still lived there dealing with all those people and traffic cluster *****. Your screen name seems familiar. Were you around in the early 2000's in Manassas/BK parking lot/ back roads races?

haha yea it ******* sucks donkey ***** around here. I'm right in Fairfax City, grew up in the kings park, Burke area, went to Lake Braddock. I definitely went to the BK often in high school. As well as since I've graduated 12 years ago, never had a car in the races though. My brother may of but he would of been later 2000's. My screen name has been the same since i joined my first forum, been on BMXBoard, hotrodders, duramax forum, 67-72 c-10 and here so maybe you've seen me on one of them?

Also wasn't angry at formula for digging up an old thread might help some one in the future, just seemed odd is all. My apologies if it came off that way.

Racers Den or there was another local f-body forum that was for MD/VA? Just can't remember the name. Good times back then. Latest I heard was nothing happens there anymore. I drove by the BK parking lot almost 10 years ago and there were a handful of people there and most were just normal cars. Also heard there was a bunch of bullshit gang activity before that where cops pretty much shut it down after the normal car show during the day.

Yea people got rowdy and they really cracked down on racing later into the 2000's up until now. Plus that whole are has gotten so ridiculously built up. There really isn't any where to go that wont quickly get blown up. The "muscle car" scene still shows up, but they are a very early crowd. Seems more and more of them are hitting the cars and coffee events these days. Taken a few up cars from my brothers shop (works at a hot rod shop) but nothing to crazy. You still local ish or move on out?

Damn you haha. I'll be within a commutable distance for the foreseeable future. Put in 11 years with the county so far. Kinda hard to walk away from a full pension and the benefits. I'm sure as **** headed out as far as I can in the mean time here in the next year or two.
