underdrive
So do yourself a favor and pick a worthwhile mod.
Yes, the alternator will not keep up. If you use an underdrive pulley on the crank, you should run an overdrive pulley on the alternator.
I run an underdrive pulley. I was sitting in line at the strip while they cleaned up a broken car. My battery died. I then installed the overdrive pulley on the alternator, and have not had an issue since.
The underdrive pulley will move everything else slower, your power steering and a/c for example.
Are the gains worth the expense? That is your call.
This is what I call free horsepower. The car is not any louder, it does not idle any differently, and it is always there. The only down side is that it takes a little more oomph to turn in a parking lot.
Is it worth it? That is always up to you.
And zone, if the car is to be given away, let him give it to me. I still have a couple of spaces in my driveway.

Think things through and spend money where it counts, ask how and why and try and understand the processes involved, that is what can make you fast especially with a limited budget like most of us have.
Look at my car, stock balancer, stock wp, stock timing chain, these things are not replaced because the WORK. The kids on these boards will have you buying crap just because someone sells it without putting any real thought into the hows and whys.
I will say that at some point I will have a nice ATI underdrive damper, but the real goal there will be the nice ATI damper, the UD will just be an afterthought. I might pickup an electric WP to slap on in fall for a little extra nudge in the good weather, I will not DD one though due to the failure mode of them.
Another thing to consider is most of these guys are not bright enough to understand a cammed car may not need a OD alternator pulley where a stock car probably would benifit from one. There is the source of conflicting info on that.
