Default Maf sensor

The owner before me replaced this before he stopped driving the car and I bought it. However, since the new one, the car runs fine, but the SES light is on...It turns off at idle, but once you start to accelerate, the light comes on and stays on until you come to a complete stop...The previous owner said the computer needed to be reprogrammed or something for the new sensor?

If the MAF sensor is an aftermarket one, you might need to have it reprogrammed, however such programs are notoriously difficult to do. If it's another stock sensor, you shouldn't need any programming.

Have your car scanned to see what the code is.

Aftermarket MAF's are always trouble in my experience. They make things worse.
No use in guessing what the SES light is about.. get it scanned and find out.

Unfortunately, I agree. Please pass along the code, and we can try to help. Any MAF, aftermarket or not, should tell the PCM that all is well. I ran a Granatelli for a while, and it never set a code.
Have you tried cleaning the MAF with an electronics spray cleaner?

not yet...I am going to be out for today, but when I go and get my A/C fixed, I might as well have him scan the code...My car will probably me down for a few weeks, maybe less because I am bringing it in do get the dent on my driver side rear quarter fixed, and I am gonna get the paint touched up because there are some chips on the spoiler and hood. Also, that molding piece that runs down the center of the door on firebird's is fading, so I am gonna get those repainted...Car should look sexy after that....

I cleaned mine with carb cleaner, worked great, just make sure you dont touch the inside of the sensor.

I wouldn't paint the molding. Just take it off. Have you seen what it looks like off? It's much better if you ask me.

Several cleaners should work, including brake cleaner. I tend to the conservative, and now use electronics cleaner. It should say "leaves no residue" or similar, on the can.

I found out electric cleaner is the best solution for the MAF. If the hotwire is dirty, you can use a que tip.

Yeh it's simple. Slowly peel it up and try to get as much of the glue to come off with it. The glue is the most annoying part if it stays on. Search the appearance section for more info.
