It pretty much is now. The LS1 in the C5 was rated at 345hp, which was the highest LS1 rating. The gen IV LS **** is no less than 400hp. In 5 years it will be cut down to LT1 standards.

If you mod your car it isn't much of an issue, if they build a new truck that can hang with me when I'm on the nitrous, hats off to them

It is already down to LT1 standards with the LS3's putting out 390+rwhp stock in a 3100 lb vette and 500+rwhp cam only with stock heads.

Which isn't that hard to do, give me the 35 large for a new Yota and I'll show you one very nasty LT1!

they have the LT5 which would blow the tundra's engine out of the water.

GM needed to make the LT4 or another LTengine with better flowing things/composit intake mani/etc, so we can swap things easily like the LS1/LS6 guys.

lets face it, we have the experimental, mutant, frankenstein engine GM dreamed of, and it still whoops some *** 14 years later.

it still amazes me, to the amount of people that always try racing a car with a truck. most times, completely ruining the usefulness of a truck.

don't get me wrong, I LOVE putting the occasional import-f*cker in his place with my truck, but it still sees a 5000lb load atleast once a week, and see's the dirt atleast 5 days a week.

technology is a bitch to keep up with, somebody in this post was amazed that toyota had a 380hp 350, big f-in deal, chevy had that about 30 years ago with ancient carb technology

Ive been working on porsches for several years now, you wanna talk about technology, how about the new gt3, an n/a 6cyl 3.8 with 415hp, for those of you who have never driven one, they are marvels of technology, even if they are yuppied out..

But still, its funny to think after i have about 15 grand of parts into my 96 ws6, they will see my taillights in the straights, turns, and even in braking, Technology is hard to keep up with, but remember to its working for us to make better parts to make our dinosaur lt1 cars better

I'm stock and it's okay with me. I have fun punching it every now and then, but I just don't go picking on cars (or trucks) ten years younger! I usually choose my (rare) battles with cars generally in my car's age range.

If there's anyone out there who's mad because their mint condition first gen Camaro can't beat my LT1 (or a 2007 truck), I'm open for trades. LOL

I'm certainly not amazed by that power/displacement ratio, especially from a DOHC, just pointing out that it is much higher than the LT1 which made 275-300 hp stock depending on the year and the car.

Also keep in mind hp ratings of old cars are typically given as "gross" and not "net", I forget how much the difference is, but it makes older cars look more powerful than they are when compared to newer cars.

That's probably why you no longer work for Toyota.

All it takes to break 500rwhp n/a on a C6 is a cam + boltons. How much would it cost to do that with an LT1?

Isn't that number within the reach of a 383 with heads/cam/full bolt-ons? That + the car itself would still cost a LOT less than the ~$50K a C6 costs. Or go forced induction.

??Where's the 500+ rwhp head/cam 383 you speak of? Seems like 370-425RWHP NA LTXs are common but 500rwhp NA LTXs???
I've looked at some new C6s for less than 50K, with the cost of mods and the performance potential I've been thinking about pulling the trigger on a C6.

MIke

This discussion isn't about building the cheapest/fastest car possible. If that was the case everyone here would go buy a fox body and throw 5K into it and run 9's with a shitbox. And show me a link to an all motor hydrolic roller LT1 that puts out 500+rwhp. A heads/cam/strocker package for an LT1 is going to cost ALOT more than a cam+bolton package for an LS3.
