That's not loss of low-end power..that's loss of traction..

i think the cats are fine. Cats would NOT cause a loss of only low end power. but top end as well. He would nto be able to go 94MPH with a clogged/restricted exhaust/cat. Im thinking it might be a weak cylinder, bad wires/plugs/coil, etc. and the shitty aftermarket MAF

trust me no loss of traction there. maybe we can get a vid this saturday and show you guys. we have tried two different stock MAF's no luck. Wires and plugs are new i believe but i will double check and we can do a leak down test.

thanks

If the cat was clogged at lower rpm's the pressure from the exhaust could be restricted enough to cause the engine to bog.....But at higher rpm's the exhaust has enough force to pass through the cat if it's just now clogging up....Thats what I think but just my .02 Sorry if it doesn't work but I don't really have any other ideas other than a bad cylinder (rings) or valves......Good Luck........ when i frist got the car it only had 40,000 miles on it and it was way more powerful up top then it is now i was getting way past 140 mph with ease and now i dont think she wants to im pretty sure its the cat or the o2 sensor either way im taking everything off and putting more on heads cam springs pushrods headers plug wires underdrive pulley areo fuel pressure reg, injectors im thinking 32# and engine tuned, i think i will be set for just a little bit ohh and i just bought another rearend its a 10 bolt but it already has brand new gm 4.10 , trickfow cover and the axles weld cant afford the 9" ford yet but i hope its a good start. opinons welcomed

look. if the cat is clogged, the car WILL NOT breathe top end. If its restricted, there is MORE air trying to go through at higher RPMS, thus, more restriction, and the car CANNOT breathe top end. you need air to exit in order to enter the engine. Clogged cat = cannot get high in the RPMs

I see your point....just thought it could be something worth looking into....b/c my old car did almost the same thing and all I did was gut the cat and it took care of the problem. I know it sounds stupid but it worked. Anyways it was just a guess. But I'd agree that at higher rpms the exhaust couldn't escape from a clogged cat but it's just 1 of those things where anything can happen when dealing with cars. For some reason my car with a clogged cat ran sluggish out of the hole but at top end pulled....so I don't know. But you do have a point so not trying to say your wrong b/c logically you are right.

i dont agree. when you have more exhaust forcing itself through, your bound to move broken material throwout the entire exhuast pushing material out of the way allowing the car to breathe better than what it would at idle, and it depends on how much the cat is broken. its not like the enitre cat has to be broken. there could be little peices. now gut the freaking cat. if it not the car then big deal, you gave yourself a few extra ponies.

yeah, but if the cat was falling apart im sure he'd notice honeycombs blowing out his tail pipes. normally, cats melt down, and just form a huge ****** blob. haha, its nasty, and it blocks like all hell

u should know as well as everyone that every car is diffenerent and things fail differently. just dont tell him to rule something out when there is a very good potential that, thats what it could be. im not bashing for the record lol
