Does K&N make a decent oil filter? Is it true that it's just a Mobil 1 filter with a nut on the end? Autozone is running a sale until 8/26. You can get five quarts of Castrol Syntec(which I assume would include German Castrol), and a K&N filter for 27.99.

I run the K&N HP-3002 oversized filter.

The Wix/Napa Gold oversize would be my second choice.

You guys need to state WHY you run xyz filter

In a high performance engine FLOW is more important than filtration.. If you have a badass filtering unit that restricts the flow and starves the bearings and elevates wear particles, you're kinda fighting a losing battle.

The K&N offers both excellent flow and filtration, as well as the added capacity if you use the 3002.

I also run my oil about half a quart over. I DONT want it starving with the way I rap on it.

Cruise along at 1500-2000 sometime in 2nd or 3rd then just nail the throttle and watch what the oil pre gauge does momentarily. Thats why I take the precautions I do on filter selection and oil capacity, and my engine likes me for it..

mobil1, k&n, amsoil are the best filters on the market. here's the proof... go buy a fram filter and a mobil1 filter. take them apart and look at the filter media and endcaps... you will be convinced. fram uses cardboard endcaps with glue securing it to the media, which have been known to come apart offering no filtration. higher quality filters such as mobil1 have steel endcaps with rubber filling securing it to the media. u definitely get what you pay for when it comes to filters
i run the mobil1 filter m1-302... the longer version.

I'm going to be putting this filter on my 01 4.7L Jeep Grand Cherokee. I was just curious about the K&N because it's part of the Autozone Castrol Syntec special. I've been running the Amsoil EaO filter on my Jeep, and have a couple of them for my Camaro whenever I get to the point I'm actually able to drive it. I've also used Mobil 1 filters in the past. It's nice the know that the K&N is actually a Mobil 1 filter because I'm not really a fan of their air filters.

for all you guys using K&N and Mobil One, if you want to save some money use Purolator. Its the exact same filter, just a different label. They are made on the same assembly line as the Mobil filter

They don't really look like the same filter, at least in comparison to the Pure One, http://www.rubiconownersforum.com/ph...p?f=38&t=58887.

Unless something has changed, which is possible, Champion Labs makes the Mobil1 & K&N filters. I believe Arvin Meritor used to make the Purolator filters, and I think that division may have been sold to Bosch.

I use AC Delco, and will replace it with a shorter AC Delco filter for my long tubes, and will use Ford Motorcraft Sythetic Blend motor oil, 10w30.

I've been using the Purolator PureOne for years in size PL34631. It's a full 1.5 inches longer than the stocker, holds 1/2 quart more oil, and has over 50% more surface area to filter.

It's the filter size for the truck based LT1 motors. Same external OD, just longer.

EDIT: I just realized, the PF1218 is the AC Delco version/size of this very filter.

I went to Autozone and picked up 5 quarts of German Castrol and the oversized K&N filter for my Jeep Grand Cherokee. Their sale, which runs through 08/26, offered a savings of around 21 bucks. If you like German Castrol, and K&N filters, it seems like a great deal. I'm probably going to go back one more time before the sale ends.

Napa Golds are Wixes, and I forget who makes Wix. IIRC champion labs made bosch and purolators too, but it's been awhile since I checked.

Just out of curiosity, I contacted Champion Labs. The filtration media used in the K&N filter isn't identical to what's used in the Mobil 1 filter. The guy I spoke with also said the best filter they make is the new Royal Purple.

NAAAA. 'Bout 16 bucks. I won't use them.

I've changed over to Fleet Guard filters from Cummins. Very happy with them.
