Default can you beef up the 10 bolt??

Well I havnt had the chance yet to take the car to the track since I did the rebuild and the A4-M6 conversion.. I'm thinking I wont get any traction off the line without slicks and suspension.. I understand modded cars plus traction do not go together with the 10 bolt.

As a college student I don't have 2k to drop on a 12 bolt or 9 inch.. is there any way to "beef up" the 10 bolt on a budget to handle say 400-450 horse and around 3-3500k launches with slicks? Or does it have to be replaced.

I know guys that have 400-500rwhp and have put over 30K miles on thier 10 Bolts with the occasional track visit here and there.

I know guys that have broke them with bolt on cars and MT's.
The wear and tear of your rearend has more to do with how you treat it rather then the HP output of your car.
Yes, the more power you have the more your chances of hurting your rear incline, but there are many aspects to it.

As far as bulking up the stock rear, you can buy rear-end covers (girdles), which are designed to improve ring and pinion gear life by pre-loading the bearing caps while also adding additional strength to your rear end housing. That and better studs.

losing the crush sleeve and using the solid spacer to set the pinion pre-load is a big help and only $30.00.

About 1/10th the cost of an aftermarket 12 or 9 bolt.

Some pretty awesome claims being made on these links, and the science seems to make since. I'm curious whether anyone has tried this treatment on their ring & pinion, how long has it lived, under what conditions, etc, etc.

I made a thread asking about this process last year:

Pay attention to the comments made by "Mrr23."

sounds decent...but his 200 shot was only a 150-160 rwhp shot....

and he did this with an auto...

i cut 1.60 60 on motor and with nitrous 1.4 60' with no cover stock axles and posi in my car....if he was in the 1.40-1.35 range then id be impressed, ive seen 3.42 geared cars leaving on a 250 shot cut 1.42-1.40 60' in a 3800+ pound car...thats impressive...although that might streingthen the gears i doubt it will help out much more than quieting down the rear and reducing wear

very true. the strongest 10 bolts have original gears. I think this has what has saved mine so far, even with 90k miles on it. I know a guy thats pulling tire on the launch with an original 10 bolt.

I dont really believe in "beefing" up a 10 bolt beyond a diff cover. IMO one of the best ways you can save your 10 bolt is install some good LCAs and eliminate the wheel-hop. Wheel-hop is just as bad if not worse than having traction. 7.5" gears dont like it.

I know if my 10 bolt ever breaks, im buying an entire new one with the original gears still in tact. (assuming i dont upgrade)

I took the old LT1 out one day with a set of ET Streets on it with the Factory Rear..and the Spider Gears went

That is why I ended up with the Auburn Pro Series..

personally i think beefing up a 10 bolt is like 2 aids patients having safe sex, they're alive now but one day real soon they're gonna be dead

ive never broken a posi...8 f-bodys....3 with nitrous....prolly 100k miles of drivin between them...3 6 speed cars...

had a friend kill a carrier...spending more than 3 dollars in aftermarket stuff for a 10 bolt is a WASTE OF MONEY!!!

stock form is the best ten bolt

I helped Hazard2k with his 10 that he beefed up. He reinforced the housing and and had adjustable bars between the diff cover and the axle tubes. It was pretty slick! He hasn't blown it up yet in his 99 Z28 with 4:10s and 380HP...

I think it happened when I turned the Flux Capacitor on..

It blew all to ****, metal all over in the Housing..one of the Spring Plates broke, shot into the Spider Gears, and for some reason it went boom..

I'm waiting to hear that sound when I put the new one out on a 3/4 throttle Launch..

The strongest gear set won't help with a posi that is physically limited by size. I broke the spider gears in my eaton with a 6-speed and nitto's with 400rwhp. And the reason most people break the rear ends after they put in gears is becasue the shop does a shitty job setting the backlash and pattern. I have 3.73's and broke an eaton posi but my gears are still fine.
