Rebuild?

Well last night i was drivng on the Highway and Cruising with a couple of Friends and My car started to make a "loud" knocking noise. So i pulled over and called somebody to tow me home. When i got home i jacked up the car so i could hear where the knocking was coming from. I'm thinking its from the bottom of the motor around the crank pully. Just wondering if it could be the pulleys, they are aftermarket and might be off balence. Just haven't checked if they are. Also how much would be a Rebuild for these LT1's i just want it to go back to stock. Just wondering what you guys think it could be. Thanks Calvin.

Its kinda hard to diagnose something like that without actually hearing it. Does the sounds move as you rev the motor. More than likely its time for a rebuild.

yeah it does when get louder as you rev it.

Now that it's cooled down, when you start it up cold, did the knocking noise go away? Then does it come back after it warms up? Spun main bearing if that is the case. As far as a rebuild...start with another motor. Your oil pressure at start up will be fine...until it warms up again. This one is junk if it is a spun main bearing. I've already got $2K into my motor rebuild but that's with all high perf. valvetrain parts and replacing all gaskets/seals (amount includes the purchase of a used motor with 40K miles on it.)

k i will. I drained the oil last night and if you looked hard enough you could see some metal flakes. I don't know what that means but can't be good.

I had a knocking coming from the timing cover, and it was the timing chain chewing gears up and ripping itself off of the cam.........
