Shouldnt happen with shorties or mids. I got my mids on and doesnt look to be much of an issue.

to add into this, ive got a set of bbk ceramic coated headers that I was told are for a 96-97 Z cus they have the 3 bolt flange on one side and 2 bolt on the other. the guy i got them from sent me a 6" extension for both sides off his y-pipe. I was looking at my y-pipe and ive already got the 3 bolt style on the drivers side, i was told by a friend that i should have the 2 bolt style on both sides as he does in his 94. is my car just backwards? and will i be able to hook it up or will my y be too short?

The 93-95's were single cat cars whereas the 96-97's were dual cat. On the 96-97's, the driver's side cat bolts in between the header and the y-pipe, and the passenger's side cat bolts in between the y-pipe and the intermediate pipe on the catback. The driver's side header flange only has two bolts because of the cat.

If your y-pipe has 3 bolt flanges on both sides, then it's a 93-95 version which is meant to bolt directly to both headers. So it sounds like you've got 96-97 headers with a 93-95 y-pipe.

Whether it will work: does one of your 6" extensions have a 3 bolt flange on one end and a 2 bolt on the other?

ok an update

here's some pics of the extensions i got. I just untaped them...and as it turns out they both are not 6"

this is the one that im questioning. i looked at mine again on the engine, it is a 3 bolt flange, but i dont think it has the same dimensions as this one between bolt holes. it looks like they typical 2 bolt compression fitting only with 3 bolts.

now some more questions for you to ponder on. If i were to get an ORY for 96-97, what would I have to do to get it to fit my catback system on a 94? i found one for $100 shipped w/o cats (dont care) with all the right fittings but im trying to see how it will mount to my intermediate pipe/cat.
