Does Anyone Know if A 1996 Pontiac Firebird Formula came with a single cat from the factory or dual cats? Also where can I get one from, This emissions stuff is kicking my ***, I cant get anyone to inspect it unless it has one.

If I remember right the OBD2 cars had 2 cats...So 94 was the last year of the 1 cat cars.

The single cat should go up to 95, since it's technically OBDI. But I know 94 is single. 96-97 definitely has dual cats.

If your having lots of trouble with getting it visually passed, cut off the outer shell of a cat and put it on your car. You will pass since "all emission's devices must APPEAR to be in working condition."

The reason I asked if I need one or two was because the guy inpecting my car looked it up and he said I only had 1 cat stock from the factory, He must have looked at it wrong or something.

Anybody know where to get a good univeral High flow cat from?

I have Random Technology universal cats. I believe I got the 7000 series. Expensive, but high quality.

96 & 97 have dual cats. the DS cat is tucked up near the manifold, and the passenger side is flat like one would expect. They also have 4 O2 sensors, 2 pre-cat, 2 post-cat.
You could probably get away with just one, since that is all the inspector is looking for.
