Where and what do I do to find out if my 1997 Z28 has a posi rear end?

Being a 10 year old car the real question would be if it has a posi rear does it actually still function.

I do not know what came on which f-body packages but my gut says a Z28 should have posi.
The question for you though is 1 stripe or 2 and only you can answer that one.

Maybe I will run into you at GLD one weekend.

No, don't think so, but I am easy to spot at the strip and will be making several trips to GLD this fall.
Look for a big ugly Caprice going faster than it should.

All Z28s have a posi. Like said above though, the question is if the posi works. A lot of times they still do unless they've been broken.

Look at the SPID lablel, "G" codes are axle codes. As said G80 is posi and there should be another one. Tell us what it is and we can look it up.

I can not tell you where the SPID label is on the car though, many cars like my Caprice it is on the underside of the trunk, on my wagon it is in the tailgate doorjamb. Seen them in glove boxes before.

I think the 99+ have the better posi units. That's what I want to upgrade to, to get away from this torque-clutch style posi.

My sig shows what RPO 3.23 is.--------------------------------------------------\/

Yea..GU5 is the 3.23 Ratio.

As far as Posi's go..they get old and the Fluid most of the time hasn't been changed as often as it should, and they stop working.

I have an Auburn Pro Series in mine, and that thing will snap your neck..

99+ have the Torsen T2 diff. They work OK, but not 'great'. A Torsen T2R is a great diff for auto-x/road racing. Auburn now has a program called D-REX where you buy one new diff, and when it wears out, get another new one for only $100.

If it is an M6 it has the 3.42 gear and a posi.
Only the autos came in either 2.73 (standard) or 3.23 (performance package) but never 3.42.
In 97, I believe only the V6 did not have the posi.

Just put an Auburn Pro in a friend's car he got under this program. Problem is it did not wear out but rather ate the spiders.
Having to set things up will get OLD.

An awesome warranty is worthless if the product is not good. I am not saying the Auburn Pro is bad just thata warranty is something you never want to have to use, kind of like insurance.

I completely agree. I wouldn't want to do all that work every time, but it is an option if you don't want to use a Torsen diff.
