Default LT4 Valves

Are the LT4 sodium filled valves worth the money? With the lighter weight I would think that they would perform well. I plan on doing the heads and putting in the hot cam kit but I have heard that the springs still will not be good with the extra weight of regular valves...so since I can get GM parts at cost plus 15% for being an employee thats still 430.00 for the set is the benifit worth the cost? thanks.

I didn't know those were so expensive. They are really supposed to lighten up the valvetrain, but aren't there any other options that do the same or better for cheaper?

Those sodium filled valves are still 1.94", 1.50" or something close to that? Get some titanium valves.

They are 2.00 and 1.55...but wouldn't the weight savings help them ramp up quicker?

OK I was thinking about stock valve sizes for the LT1. Wouldn't titanium valves be comparable to sodium?

I believe titanium need special seats for street use.

Just get better springs. You want to spend gobs of extra money why not spend money on a good kit instead of the HOT kit.

People get carried away with wanting bigger. 2.00/1.56 is bigger than stock but smaller than many want to use despite awesome results. Most people like to ignore results though and prefer a good line of BS and a bigger is better mentality.

Hadn't heard that but I am using stainless. I was offered titanium valves but chose stainless 2.00"/1.55" instead.

Especially if you see the price, most will choose stainless over titanium.

As for LT4 valves.... if you are interested in some, I have a used partial set that I will sell for a very reasonable price. I'll have to check, but I think 2 were missing.

If you are dead set on the Hot Cam and you have $430.00 to spend on valves I would suggest that buying undercut 1.94/1.50 SS valves and upgrading the valve springs would be a better option. If you were building a 7000+ rpm motor light weight valves would be the way to go. Either way, don't expect a huge gain from a valve swap.

Good Luck,

Daren
