1st gear?

1st gear? in my automatic 95 trans am there is no selection for 1st gear. Ive heard from some fellow trans am owners that you can take off the console and grind off a small peg and then you can pull it down into first gear. has anyone else heard that? and if you had do you know a site with how-to info or does anyone know how to do it?
Its pretty much exactly how you said. Put the shifter in neutral so you can pull the center part of the console off, it just snaps on and off. Then turn it sideways and put the shifter back in park. Look towards where the shifter would go if you could shift to first and youll see a small piece of plastic sticking out on the passenger side of the metal gear looking thing. Chop that thing off pliers worked for me. And now you got selectable first. Sorry for the vague instructions If you need anything else pm me and I can get you pics of when I did it.

You have 2.73 gears too. Yea, like these guys said, just break off that little tab that keeps it from going into first. Did it on my buddies 93 Z. I heard its some factory manditory deal having to do with the engine being too loud in first gear or something with 2.73's. I dunno, gay no matter what reason IMO.

Due to emission/noise reasons 2.73 equipped cars couldnt pass in 1st. SO they made it where you couldnt manually put it down there but in the same token 4L60e's are not supposed to be manually shifted. Go fig.

That's the first thing I did to my Formula. I guess it was useful whenever I would do massive burnouts/donuts. Now I don't even bother with it. I enjoyed it. My transmission and wallet did not.
