OK, I'm not included but are all these high mile optis making it on the original cap and rotor? Say the optical makes it 200k does it count? I kinda wonder if my opti failure at 104,000 miles in 2002 was the cap and rotor only and the optical could have kept going? At the time I didn't have the tools or the know-how and the whole thing was ditched.

Mine was the opti itself. I first replaced the cap and rotor with the MSD setup, and although the old cap/rotor was in bad shape and the new one helped, the problem did not go away completely. Weary of the then brand new MSD opti, I instead got an OEM opti and reused the MSD cap/rotor I had just bought, while selling the stock cap/rotor the OEM piece came with on ebay.

Ended up with the OEM opti portion w/ MSD cap and rotor, and havent had a problem since

I swapped mine at 96K cause of a broken coil nipple when I did the wires - other than that it was running fine.

People who knock these things should read this thread. 100K+ (some 200K+!!) miles is pretty darn good for a mechanical ignition component.

since we're on this subject. I've got around 130k on mine, but have already decided if it goes, i'm just gonna replace it with the kit with the individual coils. Only thing now is i can't find what company produces that kit, so if anybody knows, post up please.

Hey I EAT one in my car every 10-14k miles. Just a consumable item. Then again I am revving mine to 7,200 and running a MSD on it. Both will kill one fast.

If you never really rev your car or use an after market box on them they last quite a while

I just bought a Mallory ignition box and they have a "bypass" plug you can plug into the main harness that will allow you to run the stock ignition without having to switch all the wires back. That way one could just plug the box in for track use.

Only 97k on my 96 and so far so good.

The 92 vette has 129k miles and still has the original plugs, wires, opti etc etc. Runs great.
