Default gear questions

Hey,, Lt1,, 6-sp car, i read before that the pinion in 4.10's is too small and will break easily,,,, should i just jump to 3.73's? will i notice a difference? i am assuming i have 3.42's but am not sure. The car is just street driven and raced on the street, i don't want to go to steep.. Also,, is an off road pipe worth the money? I was told it wasn't,, but it is logical that it would help,, Thanks!!!

i figured just like an slp y pipe,,, any suggestions? i just bought the car,,, so far my only mods have been an airfoil, slp muffler, and free mods including, T.B. bypass, skip shift, timing advance, air induction modification(tore out all the plastic that wasn't necessary), ported MAF sensor, i need to get it tuned,, i have bad hesitation,

what ever you decide to go with just try to plan ahead. i have wasted so much money cause i would buy one part and then end up getting somting else latter to go with a differnt kit. For example cold air intake. 200 WASTED. a few months latter i got a supercharger. Edelbrock headers.500 wasted. i riped them out after they turned to piles of rust a year latter. So you get my point. i would sit down and plan on what you want in the long run. then start buying things to reach that goal. The hesitation can be a big problem. i fought it for 3 months. ended up being a bad o2.

Get the 4.10s! They are the perfect match with a 6-speed car. I've got them and they really help wake things up.

As far as a y-pipe goes, I'd just save up and get some long tube headers. Those cast iron exhaust manifolds really hold back the LT1. In the mean time I'd look a cutout. It's a cheap mod and should give you a nice increase.

i understand about wasting money, in two years, i had 4 different exhaust setups on my 81Z,, i heard that the cutouts are bad about leaking,,, slp didn't even have a y pipe listed,, does the cutoutsound decent,, i know jegs has them for under $30.,,, have u had any problems with the gears? i was told that the pinion was to thin with 4.10's

i just bought 4.10's for my car so ill let you know how it goes . I installed a cutout on my car and gained 12 rwhp and 13 rwtq on a car with only a cold air intake at the time, and i also have zero leaks. dont worry about a y-pipe unless you have long tube headers, beacuse regardless of what you are going to buy now, you will be going to longtubes eventually and you will have wasted money on the y-pipe.
