Default thinking about ditching the lt1

Well im at the point of my build to start on the motor and im inbetween things. Build the lt1 up or sell it while it runs good now and get a few bucks for it and buy a old school 350/383 or what not. My main thinking is you can get a 600hp carb motor for cheap anywhere. To build up the lt1 its gonna be a lot more and not to mention the extra $1000 just to make the ing. worry free almost. My intentions for the car is to make it a drag car in the future. I dont have emmissions on it nor do i drive it a lot. So im in the middle of things. Or if i pulled the motor and built it up with a le3 package what kind of numbers is the le3 capabile of running?

I am thinking about doing the same thing. No problem as long as you use a stand alone computer. Many more choices out there for a regular old school SBC.

If I were to ditch the LT1 it would be for an LSX engine. The hp per dollar of a carbed gen 1 sbc is hard to beat, but I would probably drop the 4th gen platform if I were to go that route.

Unless you are going to an aftermarket block, I really don't see the advantage of a GEN I swap. How fast do you want to go? If you can do it with a factory GEN I you can do it with a GEN II.

only thing is, its gonna be a lot more money to build a gen 2 vs. a gen 1. No getting around it.

I'm tossing the same idea around...i have a spare 350 and th350 trans that need rebuilt, but at the same time, why not go nuts and go with a big block. A 502 4th gen camaro sounds nice right?

Well I see guys running 11's on a LE2 set up on a full weight car. I say an LE3 set up would be nice or what about a LE4 on a 383. Keep the LT1 alive man.

didnt think he had a le4, how bout a le7? Well call it the ls7 eater!! Only thing i hate about the lt1 is the whole ing. system on them. And seems like the only way to totally get rid of it is to go with a mag. pickup and throw a dist. on it. Then i wouldnt need to mess with a opti or swaping to a vented opti so i could run a good timing chain. The reverse flow cooling on lt1's is neither here or there. I do however like that no coolant goes in the intake so pulling the intake is not a mess!! Worth keeping for that reason alone, lol.

with a 2900lb race weight a high compression 383 LE3 would put you in the 10's

With 2900lb race weight, a good 350, unported heads and intake, stock throttle body, he could be deep into the tens.

I guarantee that I could do it all day long N/A with a stock lift cam and stock rockers. Want to make a bet? I will tear the entire motor down for you after the run (if you put up enough money).

You guys need to look up Stock Eliminator. At 2900 lbs I could run low tens.

Tell us more! I am amazed at what the stock eliminator cars can accomplish with so many stock parts. I've found details on how they do it to be fairly elusive.
