Angry 7th opti going in and still doesnt run right!

whats up guys,

i am so fed up with this car right now i cant even explain. I keep blowin up opti's above 5k rpms. it just pops real bad, then blows. I am installing my 7th one right now. I just installed it, and tried to crank it, and it runs, but seems like its only running on 6 or 5 cylinders. runs like ****. usually when I do an opti install, i just install it, install the coil back up, negative battery terminal connected, and thats it. I start it to make sure it runs, then continue to install the rest of the parts. tonight it didnt start so well. I'm just fed up and want to give up. any help?

You need to go through and check all the clearances. I will see if I can find the ones I sent to Bob and post them up for you

Once we started using them to check Opti clearances(about a dozen or so to check) we found and fixed 99% of the problems people were having

did you check the dowel pin length?
just a thought....but if the pin is out to far then it could put the internals in a bind.

Which gets back to what TwoFast4lv said.

TwoFast4lv,
I would also like a copy of those specs.

dowel pin is too short! .340" .. however how could that be causing my opti to fail?

I cant believe that the dowel length would have that much to do with it. Ive never heard of that...

Make sure your wires are on corrrectly, it is easy to swap 5 and 7.

Are you using GM opti's?

Are you loctiting the rotor screws in?

I would correct the pin length deal.

I've had to fix a bad opti after another guy installed a cam. He didn't check the length and it was too long. This caused the rotor "hub"(don't really know what to call it) to be in a bind.......thus.....it ate itself.

.340" may not be too short.
The tech info says 0.375" MAX, but does not give a min.
I know 0.035" is alot.......but I don't think that would cause this kind of carnage.

Do you have some pics?
