Default Couple questions

I am re-doing my motor again and was womdering if it is a good idea to replace the oil pump drive if I doing all this work, its getting a new cam, new GM pump and a melling driveshaft. I have heard bad stories about the drive gear getting messed up after guys put a cam in it, so is it a god idea to replace it?

Also what are a good roller lifter to use, I had comps but they seemed really noisey. Thanks alot!

Replace it with a Bronze gear drive, it seems to be the most durable. You can use comp replacement, but depends on the cam size and lobes. Unless its something radical where a Morel is needed, I dont see you needing anything over stock replacement.

Ive hear enough horror stories with a stock one stripping and spinning all the bearings becuase the oil pump uses the gear drive to turn, off the cam.

Its a 40$ peice and well worth the insurance.

A FYI when I tore down my 383 for a cam swap it had like 10k on the clock, the stock replacement that was in there was a lil worn and was not recommended to re use.

Cam Specs with 1.6 rockers at .050": 230/236 .576/.571 113 LSA

I used the bronze gear drive with far less cam....

I THINK HE'S TALKING ABOUT THE ACTUAL SHAFT BETWEEN THE DRIVE THAT RUNS OFF OF THE CAM AND THE OIL PUMP. If so I think that it's a good idea to replace it. I used one from ARP. The gear on the oil pump drive doesn't need to be upgraded/replaced unless it's worn, atleast not for the cam that you're using.

My bad, I was confused at 1st. I still don't think you'll need to replace the gear though unless it's worn.

im wanting to replace the gear, not the shaft. I have heard some stories about guys putting in the stock one with all new parts and it stripped. I used this one with the first cam swap and only had about 70,XXXon it stock including 4,XXX with the first cam. mabey it will be fine but its only like a 40.00 part from GM
