Hi, I'am building a lt4. it had some head damage. I had it welded and refaced. they took .012 off the surface. Can i use a stock .039 thick head gasket or do i need to go up to a .051 gasket. will .012 off the head alter the compression ratio a lot or valve clearance to piston.:

naw, dont worry about the .012 at all.
Alittle more compression is good for you![Happy](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_stretch.gif)
Is the block stock? you need to know what the deck height is before you pick a gasket.
You want the deck height + gasket thickness to be about ~.040
Deck height is how far the pistons are below the block surface at their highest point.
If the block has the normal deck height of ~.028, then just get the thinnest gasket around, which I believe is a .026 that summit carries. Not optimal, but it will work.
