Side molding delete
If my car doesn't sell soon, and I keep it, I will be deleting my side molding soon. My uncle told me he has a heat gun, so we are gonna try and do it ourselves. Seems like a simple task to pull off, however, I have a few quick questions. After we pull it off, what do we do? Do we use goof off or something to get the rest of the glue off, or is there something else? Also, how often does it occur that when you pull the molding off, the paint is fucked up? Any prep or afterward things i need to do?...this is the first time ever doing something like this, and I wanna do it right myself instead of paying a shop todo it for me when I have them fix the dent...

i took a piece of 20 lbs fishin line and used that to pull mine off, get it between the molding and the door and just pull it back. getting the sticky off isnt bad either, goof off should doit. my paint and everything was fine after i pulled em.

Be careful if you are not the original owner. I did it to my 94 and someone had repainted the entire car and it left paint lines. Also someone had repainted (or did a shitty job) on the passenger fender and when I used the goof off to remove the glue residue, it took the paint off. So now I have a real nasty black spot where the trim was.

Yea on my bud's 01 T/A we used fishing line and a heat gun. Then Charcol lighter fluid to get the glue off.

DONT USE GOOF OFF! Took my clear coat off! Get an eraser wheel from wal mart/target/etc... It goes on a drill and its kinda tacky and it just strips the glue right off, no elbow grease necessary.

I found it easier to remove the side molding while the car was wet. I did mine right after a car wash and was able to remove the molding and glue all by hand. The glue came off right off with my thumb with no paint issues.
The pic in my sig should have it removed.

yeah i use this stuff at work i think its called speedtech adhesive remover or something like that ill look at report back. it works awesome for getting the double faced tape off and wont harm the paint what so ever. if the paints faded buff the rest of the door a little bit so get a better match.

I honestly dont think it made that much of a difference on my car. I didnt think it was worth it. But thats including the pain in the *** it was for me to take it off and the clear coat coming off.... :-/. lol

it looks alright with it on, i just like the look without it...plus, my molding is faded and turning white, which looks like **** against a red car, so I'd rather remove it myself for free than pay someone to paint it...

whatever you do, don't just rip it all off at once! that happened once with my friend and it ripped his clearcoat off with it. take your time, peel slowly and consistantly. fishing line may help but i always found it more clumsy to use than anything... it helps with a second person applying the heat. after it's all off, you can simply use your finger to "push" it off. just keep pushing the glue into itself and it will make a '"non-messy" ball onto itself. it should take no more than 30 minutes total. the biggest thing is to take your time! good luck
