Default spun a bearing

I spun the bearing in my 94 formula, i put a 96 Lt1 in there out of a 96 z28 and runs fine. Now i want to rebuild my old Lt1. It had about 125,000 miles on it. This is my first car engine rebuild, i have rebuilt snowmobile and quad engines before.

I want to know what all i need to get it running again. I want to keep the build under 1000 dollars. I also want to put a LT4 hot cam in it. If any one has any tips on rebuilding it please tell me like what grease to use. Do you think it is possible to rebuild it for under 1000 dollars. thankyou

under a grand is gonna be very hard to do... hell the timing chain is at least 200.00 and let alone a crank kit or even a crank thats turned .010" under. Machine work will cost a lil bit too. What exactly are you gonna fix.( Just the crank kit or ?) If you plan on doing the whole 9 yards, it's gonna be more than a grand I can promise ya! If ya need any help or advice LMK....James

its hard to keep it under 1000$ but its possible, if your cylinder walls look good just hone them and get a ridge remover and remove the ridge (you can rent a hone and a ridge remover from a parts store), get a re-ring get from northernautoparts http://northernautoparts.com/Product...tModelId=10726 and take it to a local machine shop to get the crank turned and check the block to see if it needs line honed (maybe around 200$ to 300$)

You can get a Cloyes Double roller chain for under $100. You don't have to use the one they sell for LT1's http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

Throw your crank out. Buy an aftermarket one from Eagle or Scat. They are 189 bucks everywhere you look. The amount of money you'll spend at a machine shop polishing or turning your stock crank will be over 100 bucks anyways. You'lll need at minimum, a new crank (189) bearings (50) gaskets (200ish) hotcam or equivalent (150-250). This is assuming there is no block damage. You will have to inspect the area where you spun the bearing if it was a main bearing. If it was a rod bearing then you will have to inspect the rod cap. Check the ridge on the top of each cylinder. Bring it to a machine shop and have them take a look if you need to. Best case scenario, you'll just need the parts I mentioned along with possibly a new timing chain. You canbuy an LT1 chain for around 200 bucks, or you can get an electric water pump for 150 and a standard sbc chain for 35-50 (double roller too).

You'd want one because your there, it wouldnt be smart to leave an old 100k plus timing chain in a fresh motor. But like i posted you can get a full rering kit for 325$ from northern. Joelster is right, you should just get a new crank, and go get the block checked out. Line honeing is usually around 80$ depending where your at.

So
325.00 for rering kit
111.99 for cloyes stock replacemtn chain
150.00 for a crank
150.00 or maybe less for checking out ur block/line hone if needed.
$740 roughly. you'll still run into the here and there expences assemply lube, breakin oil and filters, peratex, just odd stuff every once in awhile, id also suggest a new oil pump like a melling M155 and the pickup screen i think that will cost you around 60$ you can also pick that up from northern.

well im not sure that i want to rebuild this motor. My brother just gave me a running 95 LT1 so i might rebuild that one later. A guy i know has a nitrous kit that has 75 and 100 shot that he would help me install if i traded him my LT1 with the spun bearing. I want to know if it is safe to do since my engine in my car is stock. I want my engine to last me until about 140 150 thousand miles. I know i need new plugs right? is there anything else i would need.
