i have a LT1 out of a 94 Z that ive been tryin to sell for a while, but havnt had any luck so i want to replace the tired 350 in my truck. its a 79 K10 with a rebuilt TH350. ive tried to find a thread on here with the details to convert the LT1 to carb, but all the threads turn into people saying to stick with FI. i cant use FI in a truck, because this thing is gonna get wet. i know i need the intake from summit, and i am going to use the quadrajet and distributor that are on the motor in the truck now which work fine. what else do i need? ive heard people say you have to drill a hole in the manifold, anyone know exactly what needs to be done? i would love to just use a GEN 1 but since i havnt been able to sell this motor, i might as well put it to use. (its for sale for $700obo very flexible in CT if anyones interested). any input would be appreciated, just dont start tellin me to stick with FI in a off road truck. thanks.
heres a pic of the truck.

Not a big issue, pick up a GM Performance Parts LT1 carb'd intake manifold and the plate to block where the opti went, you can run a carb and a crab style Gen I distributor after that.

dont sell that LT1 ...it will be good replacement for your tired gen1 engine
iit has roller lifters + much better bottom end hardware ...
like bizz said get a GMPP ( summit) LT1 carburated intake
and you can even use your own HEI distributor ;-)
you wil gain HP + gas mileage
keep that quadrajet : its the best carb offroad

For a carb'd motor LT1's aren't a bad choice at all, they make really good power and a carb'd LT1 would be really cheap to build if you just did a stock rebuild on the short block and topped it off with a simple h/c set up. I bet you can do it for less than the cost of a ZZ4 and it will make more power.
Injection is fine with getting wet and handles off level operation and bouncing a whole lot better than a carb.
The hole drilling is if you want to use a LT1 intake with a standard distributor, no idea what you read that lead you to believe it applied here.
I wont tell you to put injection on the truck, I will tell you to put down the wrenches till you find some better sources of information, because sofar you are not getting good info.
The LT1 would be a good swap. You will need to install an electric fuel pump, because the LT1 does not have provisions for a fuel pump. You will also have to run headers or LT1 exhaust manifolds. The GM carb intakes are very nice. To install your distributor all you have to do is remove the oil pump drive in the LT1. I think that you will have to change the gear on the distributor to one that is for a roller cam.
Good Luck,

i would love to have FI in a offroad truck, its better for hills, quicker throttle response, better milage. but this truck is goign to go through streams, rivers, ponds, mud holes, and the opti on an LT1 will not survive being dunked under water. if i had a LSx motor or a vortec 350 out of a 96-99 truck i would not hesitate to keep the FI.
about drilling a hole in the manifold, i saw some post where someone said that had to be done, and i was just confirming what i suspected which was that no holes needed to be drilled.
bottom line, if this trucks engine wasnt going to get wet, id keep the FI. i also sold the wiring harness and computer a while back so i dont have those parts anymore for the swap. carb is my only option if i stick this motor in my truck. thanks for the responses, im getting excited to go home for christmas break and do this swap.
