should i even attempt this without access to a lift?

you can, the lift makes it a hell of alot eaisier, i rebuilt mine last summer with help from some rednecks and a lift...

Its not that bad as long as you have the right extensions it goes pretty quick. I did it in a driveway using jack stands.

I've did a few times on jackstands. Mine don't go high enough. I put the jackstands on 4x4 blocks of wood. Also, get about 2 1/2 feet of 3/8 socket extensions and a socket swivel adapter to get the top bolts.

You don't need a lift. Good heavy duty jack stands will do just fine. Just be extra careful with jack stand placement and make sure the car is stable.

You can get the top bolts with a wrench from the top.

I got a floor transjack from harbor freight for cheap it make it so easy to remove the trans. I want to pull it just to go visit FLT to get a rebuild

i think im just gonna pay someone to do it... i got those cheap *** jack stands from sears and a cheap *** craftsman jack....

im gonna send it to CPT for a rebuild

ive had a craftsman jack for years (b4 i was born its my dads) and it still works better then a expensive one i got for xmass last year from summit

YOu should be fine to do it with jackstands, Ive done it 3 times without a lift.

Just get the car up enough for you to get under it and let the trans sag down. Hit the bolts with some extensions and then get the trans on the ground.

Once the trans is on the ground just lift the car up enough to slide the trans out.
