People do not realize tat 500rwhp is a very hard and time consuming task.

Not many guys make 490rw with big heads, cam and manuals.

I would doubt you make 500rw with a 355 at 11:1 on an LT1 style intake.

I'm looking at doing a 355, and would like to end up close to 500hp. I'm looking a the AFR 195, comp ported, 11.1 comp, and a lt4 intake, cam to me doesn't matter, I'm used to adjusting valves
That's at the motor not the wheels, not to mention the golen longblocks are lucky to break 320rwhp. A stock bottom end car that is setup right should be able to make 475hp at the crank, 500rwhp out of a HR LT1 isn't exactly an easy thing to accomplish. And thats not taking into account all the high reading dyno's out there. There are people that make 400+rwhp that can't break 115mph, 450+rwhp that can't break 120mph, ect...

Since you're starting fresh, and going with shaft mount rockers anyway, you can set it up for SR and not have issues like you think. I imagine to make that kind of power you'll be spinning it pretty high in the 7k RPM realm. Set it up right and it will be just as streetable and reliable as a HR set up would be. I am there right now, SR 396, T&D shaft mount RR's, with all the goodies etc...except I have a set of stock LT1 casting heads that have been pretty much maxed out with out getting into tearing the heads up and welding them back together. Intake flow is in the mid to low 290's, but that isn't saying much, as Lloyd and others state, there is a whole lot more than just cfm that goes into head porting.

It isn't my daily driver by any means but if I wanted to do it, I could with ease. My cam specs are 254/260 .62x/.62x on a 112. I haven't been on a dyno, only street tuned using a data-logger to fine tune it all. I'd estimate that my RWHP is in the 480~490 range and I'm taking it up to 7200rpm. Been trying to get to the track, but just haven't been able to find the spare time on the right day to go.

I think 500rwhp is doable, you will need an awesome set of heads, healthy amount of compression, and a cam to match it all. And I think a solid roller set up would be a must.

Thanks a lot guys for all your insight. Maybe I'll think about using AFR 227 heads, and I'll use a head with a smaller intake runner. I bought my car three weeks ago and tonight was the first time I got to really drive it. It was listed on this site for sale about 4 weeks ago, 96 SS with 77,000 miles. The car pulls really good, to be a stock bottom end with Lloyd Elliot stage 2 cam and heads, long tubes, no cats, and full bolt ons. I have an extra block, stock heads, intake, and throttle body. I don't want to be like a friend of mine that put a 415ci LS motor in his SS that made 558rwhp N/A, and this was his only car and what he drove to work everyday, and he end up selling the car because it was to much for a real street car. I'm just doing my homework and you guys are just helping Thanks.

I was thinking the same thing but I would also need to get new rockers(offset) and my jezels were damn expensive the swap would be expensive.
