Default open headers?

would running open headers on my car for a few months be bad on anything? Or is there any way I would lose power and torque because of no backpressure?

It will most likely fry the O2s, and your going to lose some low end torque, not because of backpressure but because of lack of exhaust scavenging.

O2's were fine, and yeah you loose a little low end but get some more up top. Gives you a headache the first two days but you get used to it lol. Just gotta watch out for the po po...

seeing as how its winter time...not sure if its cold where you are...but running open headers is okay...but when you shut the car off that cold air creeps up into the headers and can over time crack the valves.

that doesnt make sense because no matter how long your exhaust is cold air will creep back up to the motor

i think he means it will creep in there a lot quicker, which wouldnt give the heads time to cool off on their own. not saying hes right but i see what hes saying

I run dual-open collectors on my car and also have 18" collector extensions. So, I've got the best of both worlds, low-end torque and no high RPM restriction.

run 6-8in extensions and you should be fine, and yes, the cold air can crack valves

exaust gas cannot push air out fast enough at idle to keep fresh air from getting on the o2s, causing the car to put more fuel than is needed. I don't know why it would burn them up though.

okay...lets say that you just shut off you car...open yeaders, and it 40 degrees outside...cold air immediatley comes up through the headers and into the cylinders...over time it COULD crack valves...doesnt always happen.

i agree with you on that. and i dont think it could "burn up" the o2's, theres no theory behind it

I don't think it is an issue of "burning-up" O2s with open-collectors, but that they may not perform "as designed" in an open exhaust system (during closed loop). With the newer design EFI systems there is an O2 in front and one behind each Cat with a closed exhaust system. You open the exhaust system up and everything changes.

Leaded race gas is one thing that will damage the O2s.
