Default LT1 question

i was planning on installing a mechanical temp gauge on my 94 z28 anyone know where i could hook it up at....would i need to pull a sensor or is there an extra plug somewhere on the head if anyone could help just let me know the location...this is for bracket racing purposes thanks

I don't understand why you would want to replace the electric sender with a mechanical sender, but whatever. There is a TSB for fixing temp gauges that read too high. If you're interested I can get it.

In the meantime, there's no reason not to use the original sender location. I'm assuming that you're eliminating it and don't want redundancy. If you want a different location, I think there's an extra plug near upper rad hose to engine connection.

I also prefer the machanical guage for bracket racing. Since the heads are reversable, there is also a unused plug on the pasenger side head. It will be toward the back, kind of behind the oil dip stick. I haven't looked yet, but there could also be some usable plugs on the block somewhere.

Why mechanical? Do you feel that it's more reliable/accurate/what?

I really like electric gauges. Mechanical senders are a giant pain to install, especially oil pressure. I like the ease of installation that comes with electric senders.

I planned to go with an electric digital temp gauge for bracket racing. I too would like to know the reason for going mech.

Why machanical? I don't really have a good reason other than that's the way I've allways done it. I try to stage at the same temp every pass and the most consistant cars I've had were equipped with machanical guages. I'm sure quality electric guages will work just as well.

You want to bracket race, go buy an unmodified 94 Z28. Before it was modified, it ran within .005 every single run at the same temp... I just ran AC to stabilze engine temp. Wasn't the fastest, but sure was a bracket monster.

It's MUCh quicker now, but nowhere near as consistent.

How do you stabilize engine temp with the AC? Turning on the AC at the tracks that I've been to is a pretty good way to get booted out. Of course, I've only raced in Louisiana and Florida, both have high humidity that makes the AC system dump condensation like a water hose.
