Default Changes to the shootout classes.

After getting numerous emails and phone calls about people that can not come to the race because of this rule or that rule we have made a few changes to allow more entries but added weight penalties to level the playing field.

These changes were made to benefit the race and were not made for individual gain or purpose. We also reviewed NMCA rules about certain things and it gave us ideas as well.

This should open the door to many more cars to come to the event but yet keep a level playing field.

The rule changes are as follows:

Outlaw: 4-link set-ups will be allowed but with a 150 lb weight penalty

P/A and N/A and 6-speed: Converted 23* SBC heads will be allowed but with 100 lb weight penalty.

Also nitrous only cars will get a 100lb weight break in Outlaw and P/A.

Keep registering folks!

Thank you all!

Tony thanks for changing the converted sbc heads rule. My motor has some -10 Brodix heads so their still 23*. To me there wasn't any gains going to the brodix heads or advantages but the cost savings was why I went that route. I was hoping to run in the power adder class when this all started. The motor is set up for a bigger shot I just don't think I will have the car dialed in that early in the year. Looks like in April we'll just see where I fit in the best P/A or Outlaw.

Thanks MIke

Anti-gravity matter, just put it inside the doors and quarter-panels! I’m sure you can find some on ebay.

I agree the change to allow any 23* head, but I dont agree with the 100lb weight penalty. A 23* head is a 23* head, my heads dont flow any better than a Nicely ported AFR 210/ 227, or a very well ported TFS for these cars.

But I cant make it anyway, I am barely a 10 second car on motor, I weigh 3800 lbs and I have no power adder.

Just voicing my opinion

3800lbs!? Take out the massive subwoofers and amp in your trunk. He'll my car weighs in at around 3300 with a full tank.

Totally agree 100%. You should allow any 23 degree head converted or not, with NO WEIGHT PENALTY. Show me a 23 degree sbc head that can outflow an AFR227 LT1 head. Throw a weight penalty on SB2.2, brodix 18/15/13/12, heads, but allow them in the power adder or N/A classes. Throw a weight penalty on an aftermarket EFI controller but allow in any class. That way a stock pcm AFR LT1 head car can go toe to toe with a SB2.2/Bigstuff3 car. Add 150lbs for a different degree head, and another 150lbs for aftermarket controller. I know it complicates things but it's good to get it out now (Dec) instead of later (March).

Default go to this race no matter how quick your car is

Take this as a friendly encouragement comment:

If you were thinking it might be fun to attend, (and compete), in this event, but have 2nd thoughts due to factoring and calculating ""Do I even have a chance of qualifying?"), please attend and race regardless of that.

At heads-up qualified events it is seldom the quickest car that wins. Many times the mid qualifier win. Hole shots help but many times it's just longevity and being able to make it down the track round after round. Sometimes the guy on the bump spot wins.

I know you know this but it's a reminder none-the-less.

If you have color commentary, (a fun guy on the mic), then even the qualifying round can be fun and filled with drama. Make sure the track shows the bump spot on the ET boards and have fun with that too.

A few things my local track does to encourage a large turn-out:

1. Reward all who qualify for heads up by allowing them to race in 2nd round of bracket racing if they lose 1st round of heads up.

2. Reward all who qualify for heads up by awarding token prize money for those that make the call for 1st round. (usually the cost of admission).
These rewards should encourage many people to attend and at least give a go at the bump spot for the heads up racing.

The above are just ideas/suggestions and I'm sure it will be a well attended, (and raced) event.

I've seen too many events have 5 cars in a 16 car qualified ladder because there are usually a few notable quick cars attending and so some think, "why try when I cannot compete?"
