Melling HV's suck the Pan dry..it's happened..

As far as some of these Pressure readings with some of you guys..your Sending Unit may be bad or going bad..expecially if it says around 3..

If you had around 3psi at Idle your Lifters would sound like a Sewing Machine and you would have shot a Rod by now..

i have an lq4
with low oil pressure reading about 20-25 and drops lower when hot
lifters were replaced and pressure dropped even more to 10-15
running 10-30 sae oil
should I go thicker

On an LT1 having oil pressure issues, you really need to check the oil pump drive gear. Granted it's a lot of work having to pull the intake. But the stock gears suck.

As for using Royal Purple....might wanna rethink that.

For the stock oil pump drive? No they don't. If they do suck it's because a cam was selected with mismatched material causing premature wear. The oil pump drive gear/cam gear are one of the most lubricated components in a SBC. They don't just up and wear out just because.

My stock 97 LT1 running cheapo 5w30 synthetic sits a hair above 20 psi at idle for oil pressure with a warmed up engine.

As long as it's close to that, I really wouldn't lose sleep over it.
