rebuild motor
how hard would it be for me and my father to do the rebuild (i know i would have to send it somehwere to get bored) i have all the basic tools and can get a hold of the tools i dont have.
but what about all the other stuff like pistons pushrods etc would that be too hard(we have a good experince and nothings stoped us yet on our vehicles) and how hard is it to put in a good h/c setup? and what size head and cam to keep it streetable as in dd
what price range im i looking at? and on average how much would it cost to rebuild the trans. ( i dont really want to mess with the trans myself)
thanks in advance to who ever answers.
I built the 402 LSX that I have in it also..believe it or not, that one was easier.

Honestly, buying complete short block's gonna be better deal overall, unless you are willing to take a chance on it having a short life. A shop that's got lots of experience is going to be more likely to get everything dead on, and will own all the tools to check all bores, journals, etc to within the thousandths of an inch that make the difference between a motor that will run and one that makes optimum power and lives a long life.
On the other hand, if you look at it as both a bonding and learning experience, by all means build it yourself. Chances are it'll come out well enough to live a reasonable life, and doing it yourself has benefits that can't be measured in dollars.
(Secret: internally, LT1 short blocks are pretty much a LOT like SBCs)
