Lt1 edlebrock intake vs stock intake
Her is my delema..... I want to buy a edlebrock air gap intake for my LT1 but I am hearing the stock one with a little work, works just as well. This is my first motor build and I want what is best for it. What do you guys think?

I think you will spend a lot and endup with little if you keep looking at parts based on name only.
Is the engine modified or are you ASSuming that the stock LT1 benifits from intake upgrades like gen 1 ans gen 3 motors do?
If the heads have not been touched the Edelbrock intake needs slight modification to work with them, another strike.

"professional" means little, some very successful arguably most successful LT1 specialists use 2.00/1.56 valves, not only do they fit stock seats, they work even in race applications.
Not saying 2.02/1.6 is bad just that at best you wasted money on new seats, some guys have done it without new seats and if that was the case you will get a chance to do it over soon enough.
The edelbrock was worth a little on a 370rwhp car, BUT that $450 spent on a stock manifold would be better spent, actually you will spend less than that.

He's running the stock ones.
Just buy the Edel, be happy, and let us know how it works. I'm sick of these threads. They're not a **** intake, we can at least say that, but we can't say how good they are, because no one buys one! Everyone just asks us how good they are. WE DON'T KNOW! (No Cap, this wasn't aimed at you, it's just a general fact).

I am running the intake off the original L99 that was in the car with a "street port" from AI, really not hogged out.
If not familiar the L99 was a 4.3L version of the LT1 available as the base engine in Caprice sedans. Much of it was the same as LT1s but the bore and stroke were smaller.
It is a 138 casting, same as was used on the LT1s that year.

A member on here with a 380hp H/C LT1 Trans-Am dynoed his car with his stock intake, then again when he got the Edelbrock intake.
He posted gains of 5rwhp, 12 torque.
Spend the $400 elsewhere, like towards some nice headers or cam.

We could take a different approach to this and ask what your goals for the car are. We already know what the stock manifolds can support, and how they respond to work.
It is a fact that the Edel has to be fit to the heads, yeah its minor work, but nonetheless work.
It is advertised to increase torque basing the design from the stock manifold and revising the runners to help in this area. The air gap is supposed to aide in cooling to keep the density of the air higher......not yet proven one way or the other IMHO.
It is also a fact that the manifolds are only as good as the heads the are supplying, since they work as one.
Now that it is all clear as mud.........ultimately it is up to you. Personally I don't have one

since he left it out of this thread I went and cut it out of another. Here is chuck's signature. I find it funny he has "C4" heads seeing as those if the same year are the same casting his car came with. Too much duration for a stock shortblock, likely recommended by a gen 1 builder who did not understand the way the LT1 intake raises the powerband for a given cam when compared to it's use in a gen 1. Surprised too see that LSA, actually a good choice and rare outside of a few companies. My cam is similar lift but over 10 degrees smaller duration and I have to rev too near 6500, you will have to take this cam a good bit higher, risky very risky.
"94 z28 Camaro 58mm intake port match, isky custom grind cam 238 duration 565 lift 110 lobe separation,
c-4 heads port and polished 2.02/1.60, 100 shot nitrious, k & n intake, full MSD ignition, 373's, Eaton posi, Mosser axels, TA rear end cover, BMR lower control arms, BMR panhand rod, BMR sub-frame connectors, BMR tower strut bar.......more to come! "

My 2 cents - If it was me i would get an electric water pump instead. I wouldn't touch the intake unless i went with a single plane intake, it will cost substantially more but you will get a lot more out of it. I guess it depends on how far u really plan on goin with your engine.

The guy down at isky i belive his name was rod 323-770-0930. I think the numbers that I post on the cam are wrong. I'm going down there tomorrow to get a clarification on the numbers and I will post changes if I was wrong. And the 2.02/1.60 was my idea and I bought the c4's beacuse i have 2 motors(1 in car and 1 out) and wanted the best stock heads for porting. I was told that the casting number ending in 374 were some of the best for this. The heads on the motor were cast iron heads.
