I disagree. A mail order tune is a great general tune, I started my tune with one. But every single engine is slightly different, even with the same components. A tune done directly to your particular engine will always be superior, if done correctly. I also believe that the tune should comprise of a dyno tune as well as a street tune, for driveability.
Just my two cents worth, you are welcome to disagree.

I do agree that a dyno tune is superior to a mail order, but Bryan Herter @ pcmforless is my tuner. I got a mail order from him to get my car started, and sched. a dyno tune a few weeks later, only gaining 3 hp because he played w/ timing alittle. My cars tune is now perfect, but 3-500 bucks for a dyno tune compared to 150 to get your car damn close wins my vote.

I agree to a certain extent. The fact that so many people ride on the mod bandwagon allows these tunes to be so close. One that goes and trys something different will give the tuner a more complicated time on getting it exact. N/A is def. allot easier to tune than a forced induction motor also. And another veriable to consider is tuners play it "safe" through mail order tunes which may not net the most power, but rather than have the car "more safe".

Try calling MTI. They did an excellent job on my old 383 LT1 through the mail, so I'm sure they could do an even better job if they actually had your car in their shop; and they're in Houston
The bad news: I don't think they tune LT1's anymore.
